20-35 inches of snow...wind gusts in excess of 75 mph...power outages...coastal flooding...blizzard conditions...BOSTON IS GETTING EVERYTHING!!! What I would give to live in Boston, MA this weekend.

I'm with you on that, Anthony. It will truly be a winter wonderland this weekend.

I'm thinking that when I graduate from high school, I might buy a cabin up in Valdez, Alaska and spend part of the winter up there. 8-)

Your life could bring you to the Northeast. And you are right--if you can stay home and don't have to drive, work outdoors, etc. it is pretty--until those winds blow down trees and power lines and then you wait days in zero degree weather for the power company to deal with the downed lines. Then think winter camping trip--inside your house! You turn off and drain pipes or leave water running (or some of both) or they freeze and burst. Hopefully you have camp stove, camping lanters, alternative heat so you can heat a room and stay warm. This gets old pretty fast. If you have to go to work, it can be pretty miserable. Coastal flooding is not a problem unless it comes into YOUR house, etc. and then it's miserable. Your car won't like the cold either. The locks freeze, the doors freeze--and either you can't get them open or you can't get them closed. Gas station pumps, ATMs, etc. don't work, of course... You have to realize that it is COLD up here! 2 degrees above zero in Boston this morning. -12 degrees at my daughter's house a few miles outside of the city. Shoveling this stuff is back-breaking. And while you can use a snow blower on your driveway, you still have to shovel off the deck, porch, roof, etc. (or weight of snow can collapse these), so you get plenty of exercise. No shower, by the way, if you lose power.

Wanna do a house trade?

I would gladly take that trade! I could deal with those things (my family already has a cabin in Mount Hood, Oregon, that we visit a few times during the winter ... last time we went there was over 3 feet of snow and we had to shovel it off the roof etc.).

Pretty much any type of cold/snow is better than what we get here in Western Washington 95% of the time.
