WOW...the wind here has been raising cain since about 5:00 pm. We're under Wind Advisory until tomorrow with gusts of up to 45mph.
Very worried about the very tall pines around our house. They are swaying back and forth like blades of grass. Small branches are dropping, and every once in a while we're hearing things hit the roof. Hopefully we won't have trees on the roof again (ice storm January 2000). Have had one brief blip of power loss about an hour ago.
We're down to 30F, with a low of 22F forecast (wind chill of 17F). Pretty cold by Atlanta standards.
Only thing missing tonight..... SNOW.

.SHORT TERM...
DIFFICULT FORECAST THIS PERIOD. WEDGE AFFECTING LARGE PORTION OF NORTH GEORGIA...INCLUDING ATLANTA AND AREAS TO THE NORTH AND EAST. COLD FRONT HAS BEEN PUSHING SOUTH AND EAST MUCH SLOWER THAN ADVERTISED BY MODELS...AND IS CURRENTLY LOCATED OVER FAR NORTHWEST GEORGIA. AS WEDGE BREAKS DOWN BY EARLY THIS EVENING THE FRONT SHOULD PICK UP SPEED AND MOVE THROUGH SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF FORECAST AREA SOMETIME AFTER MIDNIGHT. AS UPPER LEVEL SHORT WAVE ROTATES ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC STATES OVERNIGHT..STRONG VORT MAX WILL MOVE THROUGH THE CAROLINAS...BELIEVE COLDER AIR WILL BE IN PLACE OVER NORTHEAST MOUNTAINS BUT WITH LIMITED MOISTURE...SO WILL DROP SNOW SHOWERS TO FLURRIES OVERNIGHT. AM NOT EXPECTING ANY ACCUMULATIONS AT THIS TIME. MODELS INDICATING ANY WRAP AROUND AFFECTS WILL REMAIN TO OUR NORTH AT THIS TIME AND WILL LEAVE AN MENTION OF PRECIP OUT TOMORROW MORNING. WILL EXTEND THE WIND ADVISORY THROUGH NOONTIME TOMORROW AS WINDS WILL PICK UP BEHIND THE FRONT...GRADIENT WILL REMAIN STRONG THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD INTO THE NORTHEAST GULF TOMORROW NIGHT.

Our low overnight was 18F, with wind chill of 6F. At 3:15 this afternoon, we're only at 28F and a forecast low of 15F.
The winds knocked out our power for a little while last night, but it didn't last long. Just long enough to cool the house down considerably. The furnace couldn't catch up this morning--even at full blast. So, I had to turn our gas logs on.
So not looking forward to mid-teens again tonight. At least the winds will be dying down, so maybe the power will stay on.
Good luck to everyone up north who'll be digging out....

Very cold and windy. Last night and today the wind was brutal, but the wind has died down tonight.
We're sitting at 21F at 8:00 pm. Brrrr.
We'd have all of our pines cut down, but just can't afford to do them all at once (there are probably 50-75 pines left on our almost 1 acre lot). After that ice storm that clobbered us, we took out the 12 pines that were closest to the house--including the trees that dropped their tops on the house and van.
Believe it or not--even with the $13k worth of damage caused by these trees--insurance wouldn't pay to have them removed. The WHOLE tree must land on the house before they'll cover it!!

So...we're taking out a few each year--whenever we have the spare cash to do it. Eventually, we'll have a clear lot. We started out with more than 100 pines....so we're getting there.
