Still, something like this has got to be a very rare occurence as well. I wonder if anybody has any stats on just how often an anomaly like this occurs. I have heard of LES making it a very long way from the lake before, but then to go and drop 1 inch of snow in Alabama? That may not seem like much snow, but that actually seems pretty significant to me. I wouldn't have even expected a dusting really, let alone a whole inch, even if it was in a very isolated strip.
I don't know if this occurs often or not. However, I have lived in Atlanta since 1968. This is the first time that I can recall LES from the Great Lakes reaching this part of the US--in all the time I've lived here.
I'm rather surprised that others haven't read this thread and commented on the rarity and uniqueness of this event. I was absolutely gobsmacked by it myself this morning--and I'm not even in the Huntsville area. I suppose, though, most everyone's attention is on the Blizzard and so this event was easily overlooked.
I would be interested in any information others might have as to other previous occurences such as this.
