Steve - LOL!!!
That Kathy, going off for a pedicure appt.......cracking up here!!! But she's right, she was only a phone call away.
I think it's all in the way we were raised. If our mothers smothered us with attn. when sick, we want the same when adults. If our mothers armed us with how to take care of ourselves, then we're independent in this dept.
In my husband's case, he got his dad's work ethic - you go to work, if you're sick or not! In his younger brother's case, and baby of six, it was the opposite! He was babied his entire life, still is to an extent. He wants everyone to cater to him. Of course sadly he's home disabled now from a devastating stroke but he is capable of doing more than he does, according to his doctors and physical therapists. He refuses to do all they ask. So there you have it. We are a product of our upbringing I think.
My mom tried smothering me when sick, when I was a quite young, but I HATED it - she smelled of cigarettes and umpteen cups of tea. She was always patting my face, "you poor thing", licking her fingers to smooth my bangs (the worst!), hovering nearby. I must have always said - I'm fine now!!! LOL
I try not to do this with my kids. In fact we have an old yellow, plastic Tupperware bowl we use for the middle of the night, if anyone thinks they'll be sick. I came up with this bright idea when they were little - you'd get them to the bathroom, after they got sick in their bed, they finish up in the bathroom. I'd change their pj's, strip the bed, start the washer, put on new sheets, etc. and plop them back into bed. Only to do it all over again in 30 minutes! Silly me didn't realize this situation comes in waves, for several hours, at first but I caught on quickly. We would both sit up for an hour or two, instead of going thru several sets of bedding and pj's. Trusty bowl at the ready. Then when it was all over, if you were lucky, you both got to go back to bed but I didn't sleep well - keeping both their door open and ours. I swear I can hear that gag coming now a mile away!!! Mothers just hear things like this I suspect. Dads? Well, that's another story.....Of course I've been doing this mom thing for a long time now.....he he.
My kids hate the sight of that bowl too - it has to be put far away under a sink until the next time. But boy has it come in handy!
Well, that's my medical/sick type story of the day.
Still laughing over Kathy's approach Steve!
Jen - hope Dave's doing much better today.
