Very nice surprise

#1 Postby nystate » Mon Jan 24, 2005 7:28 pm

So, I woke up today and checked the NWS forecast, as well as the TWC forecast, for today. Both called for snow, although both said it would only accumulate less than an inch. Thinking it was no big deal I didn't do any shoveling, nor did I put salt out.

Turns out, both the NWS and TWC were wrong. Instead of less than an inch of snow accumulating, 8-10 inches fell by 7:00 pm. Snow was also falling quite heavily at times earlier this evening. It has tapered off now, but at least I know never to let my guard down.

All in all, a very nice surprise snowstorm!

Now you've got extra work to do, nystate!

LOL, sometimes, the mets just can't guess it - our
winters here prove to be a constant nightmare for them,
all of the time!

Enjoy that snow!

We had a surprise accumulating snowfall last week too. All local Mets and TWC said a dusting to an inch from the Thursday, Jan. 20th Clipper. All of a sudden I noticed a Winter Wx Advisory was posted and up on local TV stations.

We ended up getting 4 to 5 inches and evening rush hour was a mess!

Reminds of the Feb. 1998 storm that dumped 18 inches over a 2 day period. Flurries were predicted since the Appalachian Mountains would block the storm. They didn't - it came barreling north into the Ohio Valley. Just in time for morning rush hour.

With the 18 inch storm, I did have a heads up, in a way - our wx band radio went off at 2 a.m., for Portsmouth, OH, for "heavy snow". Portsmouth is up the river from Cincinnati, not exactly over in the next county. I remember turning it off thinking now why would our alert go off, for a town far away?

Sure enough, we had several inches from that storm on the ground by 7 a.m.!

Mets hate to be wrong but sometimes it's nice when they are!

Enjoy it!

Mary
