The WISTV mets repeatedly denied that the ice storm would occur until it actually was occuring outside. In your opinion why do they do that so often? What was the set up that caused that event to happen? Also they forcast a quick warm up and said that the ice would quickly melt. This did not occur. I seems like they just are wrong so often. Any thoughts. By the way, I remember that you were forcasting this to happen almost a week before it did.
Thanks,

Stormsfury, I have a question about the ice storm last year.

The problem is the most television mets are actually broadcast journalists that do not have degrees in meteorology. Often times, they will relay or rely solely on the NWS (or Accuweather) for information and broadcast that information. Other times, they will ONLY rely on GFS or GFS/ETA forecast models and will not look at other model guidance. Some of them don't even know the other models exist ...
However, there are actual meteorologists in the broadcast industry and some of them are quite versed and very good with their respective areas. CBS-2 New York and also in Charlotte (wxbrad on Storm2k) who has posted thoughts before here, is also very good. We BOTH did very well with last year's ice storm and saw it coming many days out.
But the answer to your question, colawx, is that it doesn't appear that you actually do not have a degreed met doing broadcast weather in the Columbia area ... (or specifically, on WISTV).
