while on my way to RSMAS, I had the not so pleasant experience of witnessing somone on a motorcycle be struck by a car at an intersection.
Not sure of the victims condition, but he was laying on the road with what looked to be severe leg injuries. I may have to testify in any proceedings since I am a witness and the officer on the scene does have my contact info.
Now, I do need to vent, there were many other witnesses who were too damn lazy (if language is an issue, please remove the word, mods) to do their civic duty and report to the officer as to what they saw. Instead, they drove across a bike path just so they wouldn't be delayed any further. Glad ot know that there are people who when witnessing something can only think of themselves
Witnessed an accident this morning

I understand what you are saying all too well Derek. Last Feb 20 I was involved in a severe accident, trapped in my car in a ditch. It happened at a major intersection. One person stepped forward to say what they saw out of at least 20 cars that had to see what happened. Really a sad situation!!!!

I cannot believe that people are unwilling to do their civic duty and report what they saw to a law enforcement officer. Its like some dont care at all. Makes me wonder about some things and people just do not want to do their part at all (which is what our nation was founded on, doing your civic duty)

Derek I was involved in an MVA a couple of years ago, an old man in his 80's ran a red light in the rain and I plowed into him right on his door, I tried to turn but still got him. My son was in my passenger seat and I didn't want him to take the full brunt of the crash. Immediately after I stopped spinning round and round there was a man at my door asking if I was OK. He said he had watched the man run 2 red lights and had already called the police and was trying to catch up with him to try and stop him before he killed somebody. I was fortunate that he was there for me as sitting across the intersection waiting to turn left was a local policeman that was going to look for this man. So everything turned out ok, but you know the man that was following him was the only person that stopped. The police officer couldn't work the scene since he had witnessed it so I was lucky in that sense.
From someone who has been there, thanks for stopping and giving your time to do your civic (and should I say moral) duty in giving your statement.
One thing I have learned from my husband being a Deputy Sheriff for 31 years is go ahead and write down somewhere what you saw and what the conditions were when it happened, etc. It may be a couple of years before it goes to court and then your memory would be your only thing to rely on and what you told the officer and what he had written down, which is not always what you exactly said. So write it down if you want to be a good witness when the time comes.
Thanks,
Mary
