Foot Massage Machine Snares Woman's Foot

HONG KONG (AP) -- Firefighters came to the rescue when a woman's foot was trapped in a massage machine that she tried out at a Hong Kong department store, police said Monday.

The 44-year-old woman surnamed Lau was testing the OTO Big Foot massage machine on Sunday when she felt a sharp pain in her left foot and couldn't remove it, police spokeswoman Trish Leung said.

Firefighters dismantled the machine and Lau was sent to a hospital and later discharged, Leung said.

OTO Bodycare, the machine's manufacturer, withdrew the product following the incident, newspapers reported.

Ouch! Can you say 'recall'?

Winced at this story, since I tend to sprain my ankles very easily. Hurting your foot or ankle, really sets you back.

Oh I stay away from lots of things!!! Like ice - I walk on grass, forget pavement if I can help it. I don't walk and look up anymore, I walk and look down a lot. I've sprained my ankles at least a dozen times over 25 years now. While walking the dog, missing a curb, coming down the steps, wearing high heels - I just turn them, and then the damage is done. I no longer walk the dog unless I'm wearing hiking boots. Yes this looks lovely when wearing shorts in the summer, but I don't care - at least I come home with no swelling!

Mary, I am with you. Except that I don't even try to do heels anymore! I wear hiking boots almost everywhere now. ( yes, with my shorts too!) After 2 knee surgeries, I don't care what people think!

My mother told me a story about getting her arm caught in a wringer washer once. Fortunately she wasn't injured, but just the thought of that makes me wince. That really brought home the meaning of that old saying, which I can't say here.
