for Mardi Gras now. The stands are up, the fences are around the office buildings, the police barricades are out waiting to be put into place. By Friday morning the vendor trucks will be lined up and down Poydras. Yep, come Friday this place will turn into a circus for 1 1/2 week.

Sunny - funny, but you don't sound so ready.....LOL

Can't imagine what's it like down there. My husband went once, years ago in his single days.

He STILL talks about it too. With a huge smile, then a long sigh.

Guess it is something to experience once in your lifetime. But living there is another thing altogether huh sunny?

Enjoy it....or as best you can!

Oh, it can be a lot of fun and the parades are really beautiful. The thing is working down in the city. If I don't get out of here by 6, I'm stuck until after 10 because everything is blocked off.

But when I get out there watching the parades, dancing to the bands, catching throws, it is a lot of fun. Add a few beers, or daquiris, to the equation and you have A LOT of fun!!

Sunny - LOL

It does sound like a lot of fun!

I think I'd rather go to NO during MG than to Vegas. Jim mentions vacationing in Vegas only occasionally.....that place does not sound like me at all. I'm surprised he hasn't countered Vegas with MG - but then again we can't vacation during the school year.....

Well, I am taking off on Lundi Gras and Ash Wednesday. So if I come downtown, it will be only to have fun! I will stay far away from the Quarter, though. The last time I went down there at MG the crowds were so thick you didn't have to walk, you were just picked up by the crowd and moved along...

I bought the package deal on tickets of Mardi Gras this year -- $30 for tickets for both weekends, all three days (Fri, Sat, Sun), for admission to The Strand here in Galveston.

The theme here this year is "Red, White, and Blue."

I've already seen previews of some of the Krewes and they're looking very patriotic. It's just odd having purple, gold, and green mixed in with red, white, and blue. Last year's theme was "Rock 'n' Roll" and others that I can recall were something about space exporation and one year, something about rainforests.

What's the theme there, Sunny?

I've been to NO when it WASN'T MG and I've been to Vegas. Vegas was much tamer than NO. I can't imagine how crazy it must be during MG! I know how it is here!!

There really isn't one particular theme. Each Krewe has their own! This year the theme for Endymion is "Mythological Menagerie". Bacchus is "Bacchus Super Sunday", Bacchus is my favorite. I don't know what the theme for Orpheus will be this year.

Oh, it gets crazy. I've seen a few things I would rather not have seen.

NO during non-MG weekends is about like Galveston during MG weekends. I've seen some of the same stuff here that I saw in NO. Then again, I've seen those MG videos from Nawlins. OMG!! It's one thing to see people flashing stuff (MG in Galveston or non-MG in NO). It's another thing to see people actually being gross and performing acts in public.

When I was a kid things like that NEVER happened. But it has almost become an accepted part of the party. I choose to stay away from it. We mostly go in Metairie - mostly families there.
