Storm track sets off east coast. Many nor'easters ahead?

#1 Postby krysof » Wed Jan 26, 2005 3:27 pm

February may be extremely snowy and active, particulary mid and late February. The storm track in the next couple of weeks is expected to keep shifting east and with a strong area of high pressure funneling in, huge snowstorms may and probably will effect the mid-atlantic to new england. The storm track would be perpendicular to the coast and just offshore. It heads straight north instead of jutting east or northeast and becoming a coastal miss. A couple of nor'easters seem likely for the northeast this February, we may have not even seen the real blizzard of 05 yet with feet of snow for all the areas, not just southeastern new england. In fact, the disturbances or areas of low pressure would mean more of an ice to rain event for cape cod and even Boston. It would favor huge snows for NYC, Philly, DC, Baltimore. Though DC and Baltimore may be on the line of snow and ice depending on how cold it is.

As much as I hate to agree, the Northeast will be in the grip of winter through most of February. Latest indications suggest a strong trough in the east, ridge in the west. Of course things could change, but I wouldn't be surprised if this pattern kept up the rest of the winter. Same thing happened last year. And for all those people who said winter was over in the northeast, eat your words!! Now the west has NOTHING...not even local ski resorts are open in Washington state. It's ridiculous. Please send us some snow/cold weather.

No more rain for us, less drought relief, increased risk of brush fires, higher risk of water restrictions, smoggier air, etc etc etc...
