SAVAGE, Md. (AP) - A truck plunged 70 feet off an overpass and landed upside-down, trapping the injured driver for more than 30 minutes.
State police said the driver, Dorek C. Miles, swerved to avoid a woman who was walking on Interstate 95 after being involved in a previous wreck Wednesday. Miles' truck was then hit by another vehicle before striking the overpass and crashing down the ravine.
The truck landed upside down in an icy creek, but the cab where Miles was trapped was on the bank. Rescuers pulled him free and used a basket to haul him up to the road.
Miles, 26, was hospitalized with two broken legs and a dislocated left hip, his mother, Gloria Miles, said Thursday.
Three more vehicles crashed in the same wreck, but no other injuries were reported.
The woman involved in the first wreck was ticketed by police for walking on a controlled-access highway. The penalty is a $55 fine.
