Will groundhog see his shadow or not?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Fri Jan 28, 2005 7:57 am

The day is comming when every year the groundhog is out to see or not if the shadow is there and see if winter will be longer or not. This is a non-scientific poll only a sample of the members about this question.

I say he will not see shadow. What do all think?

Our poor groundhogs are under 3-6 feet of snow...

#5 Postby Persepone » Fri Jan 28, 2005 11:28 am

They are out there somewhere buried under all the snow... Or perhaps they are in the crawl space under our house. Don't know where they are, but they are unlikely to come out to see their shadows.

Our groundhogs are very cute, and generally not too destructive as there are wild plants they like that grow in the yard and some landscaping next door that they really love. However, I found they also like Christmas cactus when I put one out on the deck and the babies came to nibble on it. So I moved it back inside, and then I had baby groundhogs with their noses pressed up against the slider staring wistfully at the Christmas cactus just inside... I happen to really like groundhogs, so don't mind it when they eat stuff.

All our animals are hiding somewhere (in burrows? under the house? in the garage? in the basement? I'm not sure that I want to know.) Even the squirrels. Not even tracks in the snow. The mice are inside, I'm afraid.

The question here is if the South Texas Possum will see his shadow.

I think not!

I hate to say this folks...but he will always see his shadow. Over 90% of the time, he sees his shadow. It doesnt matter if its snowing, raining, cloudy, or sunny, the groundhog will see his shadow. Last year, we had 100% cloud cover with a couple of flurries, and he saw his shadow. The next day, Punxsy got 11.5 inches of snow.

Phil normally sees his shadow due to all the camera lights and everything. But I'm voting no because we have yet to see snow and I want more snow... not spring just yet.

We can't find a damn groundhog so we'll use the next best thing, Spicoli. According to Bonehead Nation legend http://www.933thebone.net/, if Spicoli sees his shadow on Wednesday, February 2nd, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be...six more weeks of Jager? At midnight on February 2nd, Spicoli will be secured in a Refrigerator box with nothing but a pack of smokes and a bottle of Jagermeister, or as he likes to call it, groundhog punch. When he wakes up he'll have 93 seconds to get out of the box and see his shadow. Hopefully he'll get up before 9am. We'll be celebrating Groundhog Day from 5am-9am at The Waffle House, 1910 North Collins off I-30 in Arlington TX. with Spicoli. Come by and tap on the glass because this animal is already disturbed.

:notworthy: :1095: :onfire:

I'll be there!
