NWS Seeks Your Input

#1 Postby chadtm80 » Fri Jan 28, 2005 4:34 pm

The National Weather Service uses various categorical terms (minor,
moderate, major) to communicate the severity of flooding. These
categories will be color-coded on our Web pages [weather.gov/water]. We
are considering several color schemes and would like your help in
determining an effective one. If you would be willing to help us,
please go to

https://apps.weather.gov/survey/survey.php?sid=32

and respond to the four questions included on the form.

My computer or Virus scanner puts up a security alert, and won't let me go to that link...

Reason for Security Problem...

#3 Postby Persepone » Fri Jan 28, 2005 6:52 pm

The government needs to fix its website--anyone here work for/with NWS?

The issue is that the security certificate does not match the website because the suvey is on another sub-website.... I tried pasting the screen with details, but it did not stay on here correctly. But if you actually read the details, you can make your decision. It does look okay.

Besides, although it is a secure website (like the ones you put your credit card info on for on line stores) you are not actually entering any information about yourself--you don't give your name or address or anything, so I don't know why it is a secure website in the first place. Note that this website is NOT a secure website and apparently you have no problems typing information on to this website. I have no clue why that website is a "secure" website--I can only guess it's because of some government regulation that applies to ALL government websites... So common sense says that the securty certificate is not an issue!

It would PROBABLY let me go to the site, but I declined to let it. It gave me a unregistered/unrecognized certificate.
