If someone tried to pierce me, I might kill them.

Same (as pojo) here -- have often thought of adding a second to each ear but am not sure if that's "passe" by now. :hmm:

Just one hole in each ear. That was enough pain for me not to ever do that again.

Currently hole-free...but I once had:

1. tongue - pierced on spring break in South Padre when I was 17
2. both earlobes and my left ear cartilage
3. both nipples

I eventually took everything out, as being pierced no longer appealed to me. To this day, everyone I tell doesn't believe that I had so many piercings...guess I was one of those "shy on the outside/wild on the inside guys". I prefer not being pierced now, as it was too much work to take care of all of that.

I have one pierced ear and one split earlobe thanks to my grandson when he was a baby, he pulled my earring until it split my earlobe.

Two separate questions...

#31 Postby Persepone » Tue Feb 01, 2005 1:59 pm

In my childhood there were sailors who had one pierced ear after they had crossed the equator three times or some other specific number of times.

It was always very exotic and they were pretty old already when I was a kid. I think they had to have crossed on a ship under sail...

Does anyone know that history?

Also, regarding the guys who have one ear pierced (today)...

What is the "left" and "right" symbolism? I don't quite understand the "right" versus "wrong." Wasn't one ear an indication of homosexuality or something?

I believe the saying was "right is wrong"(meaning homosexual-and I am not judging here!!!)and "left is right"(meaning heterosexual). It has no meaning whatsoever that I know of anymore.

And there also used to be something about bandannas in the back pocket. Certain colors meant a guy was into certain things and having it one side meant that he liked to do/be whatever that certain thing was to someone else and having it on the other side meant that he liked whatever it was done to him or to find someone of that "style." (Safe examples - black for those black-leather, whip-loving types, brown for those who like "bears," everything else is beyond safe description.)

Haha...no problem. They certainly did hurt, but I was young (and stupid???) when I had them done. By the way, I think the left ear/right ear thing was from the 70's or 80's - it doesn't hold much water at all anymore, nor does the bandana in a pocket thing as far as I know.

My ears used to be pierced but I let them grow back as I don't really like wearing jewelry.

My youngest son got his tongue pierced along with his nipples. This was nothing compared to the piercing he received when he wrecked his car in Jan 2000. The turn signal stalk broke and punctured his leg above the knee and went halfway up the thigh. This was the result of driving at 70 miles an hour on a highway covered with black ice. Car went airborne and landed nose first, then tumbled 7 times down the mountain side in Rocky Mount NC.
