Tranquil to warm for entire U.S for at least first 10 days
..of February just like the pattern discussion states. For the northeast expect near normal to above temperatures from DC northward and above temperatures for most of the south and southeast. The same goes for the plains, Pacific Northwest and west. No cold outbreaks likely. The plains will see the most above average temperatures. After the 10th, the NAO is expected to plunge further, maybe strongly negative while the PNA remains positive-hard to say. I may be restating what the pattern discussion says, but I just want everything to be clear. While the first 10 days of February will not be very cold for the east, especially mid-atlantic and northeast. Do not be fooled. Current models, and other info predicts very snowy for those areas. Look for a few blockbuster storms especially mid and late February. With the active storm track predicted and a strong polar jet by mid February-nor'easters or blockbusters seem very likely or at least one should occur, though there may be a few.

Definitely not!
And with the temps not expected to get above 50 for the next few days with more rain in the forecast here in Houston I do not call that above normal for temps. I do have to admit it is supposed to get up to 70 by the weekend though.

Exactly-anytime there is a winter storm watch for Texas, the weather is not tranquil!!! Also, the 12Z Euro is bringing some much colder air into the central and southern plains by late Sunday into Monday. Yes, the next 6 days will be warm here-possibly close to 60. But by next Sunday and Monday, the euro is bringing things back to normal with a storm comming in off the southern California coast. Very similar to what we saw in early Jan. here. Time will tell and the euor is going back and forth on the details (it is much less bullish than 2 days ago) but it is hinting at some changes for this area. My only hope is that this time things all come together and I can have one good snow before this winter is out.

Sorry rain coverage of 100% across much of the Southeast and temps in the 40 is not usual for the South. It will only continue!!!
Just when you don't want the cold air it comes just in time for Mardi Gras. This weekend looks good for parades but another Pacific Impulse moves across us on Sunday Night into Lundi Gras. Bacchus and Orpheus don't look good.
Mardi Gras looks fairly chilly.
