Worldwide Tropical Update: 07 February 2005

#1 Postby senorpepr » Sun Feb 06, 2005 8:55 pm

The Storm2K Worldwide Tropical Update for 07 February 2005 at 0000Z.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Meena (07F/15P) (07/0000Z)
Position: 22.9S 158.2W (660 mi WSW of Tahiti, French Polynesia)
Movement: SE at 23 mph
Winds: 130 mph
Pressure: 925 mb / 27.32"
Dvorak Est: T5.5/6.5

The eyewall of Meena has begun to warm and Meena is beginning to weaken some. Shear is picking up and model guidance agrees on acceleration toward the SE over the next few days. However, parts of the Cook and Austral Islands will have to monitor this system.

Tropical Depression Noname (13R/91S) (07/0000Z)
Position: 25.4S 58.5 (370 mi SE of Port Louis, Mauritius)
Movement: SW at 3 mph
Winds: 40 mph
Pressure: 997 mb / 29.44"
Dvorak Est: Too weak

13R is slowly moving throughout the Indian Ocean thanks to a building ridge. Limited change to strength is expected.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Harvey (06U/16P) (07/0000Z)
Position: 15.7S 138.8E (205 mi NW of Normanton, Australia)
Movement: SW at 10 mph
Winds: 80 mph
Pressure: 978 mb / 28.88"
Dvorak Est: T3.0/3.0

Harvey is expected to drift toward the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria over the next few days while undergoing slight deepening.

Tropical Cyclone Noname (---/17S) (07/0000Z)
Position: 16.5S 116.6E (300 NNW of Port Hedland, Australia)
Movement: Stationary
Winds: 40 mph
Pressure: 995 mb / 29.38"
Dvorak Est: T2.5/2.5

17S is slowly organizing and is currently being referred to as a tropical low by BoM. However, since BoM measures winds in ten-minute averages (in this case 35 mph), the conversion to the US-standard of one-minute average makes the system a tropical cyclone. Regardless, this system is forecast to strengthen and be a player to the weather along coastal Western Australia.
