Seattle got within 4 degrees of the record low today, that's kind of surprising. Probably the closest to a record low all winter long.

Brennan... I am NOT talking about downtown Seattle. I am talking about the Seattle AREA. I have to go to different clients all the time. Bothell... Redmond... Bellevue... Renton... Mill Creek... Woodinville... Kirland... and on and on.

2.5 million people live in this immediate area. I care about this area.

Bellingham is in its own unique microclimate. Great.

Please do not think the world revolves around you.

If there`s precip for that day, then mountains would likely to get snow at pass levels. -- Andy

AWESOME day in Salt Lake City, UT!! 5 inches of snow on the ground, with a perfect, clear sky all day long!!! Temperature wasn't too bad either...about 38F.

As for Seattle, a fairly big change for this weekend but back to the "same-old, same-old" next week. 500 mb heights briefly lower to 534 Saturday night thru Sunday, but then level out at 540 for all of next week. Come on guys, give up on cold/arctic air...it's just not gonna happen this year. Maybe next year.

Unfortunately, not much new snow for the mountains...although snow levels could drop to 1000 ft. by Sunday morning. I'll say 4-8 inches through the entire weekend. Not good news!!

Bring on SPRING/SUMMER. Forget about winter until next year...hopefully things will be different.

I'll continue to update once, twice a day if I can get online. If not, I'll be back home Sunday night. Goodnite to all!!

This is the discussion tonight from the best guy at Seattle NWS... pretty much sums it up perfectly.

FRIDAY WILL BE ANOTHER NICE DAY...MILD WITH A SLOW INCREASE IN CLOUD COVER THROUGH THE DAY. FRONT STILL TO ARRIVE BEFORE SUNRISE SATURDAY WITH RAIN SPREADING IN IN ADVANCE OF IT. NOT A HEAVY RAIN PRODUCER AND THE STEADY PRECIP WILL END EARLY IN THE MORNING. THERE WILL BE SHOWERS DURING THE DAY...BUT THAT WILL MAINLY BE A MOUNTAIN SHOWER (SNOW CAN YOU BELIEVE IT) EVENT. BUT AGAIN...NOT MUCH PRECIP ACCUMULATION. THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEKEND WILL BE FAIRLY COOL AND UNSETTLED WITH SHOWERS BEING A THREAT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. THEN GUESS WHAT...AS YOU GO BACK TO WORK...THE WEATHER IMPROVES ONCE AGAIN. HMMMM 2 WEEKS IN A ROW. NO UPDATED NEEDED TONIGHT.

Hi all. Taking a look the 00z GFS models, tomorrow looks like another nice sunny day for the most part, but with increasing clouds by late in the afternoon and showers by late Friday night into Saturday. Sunday and Monday also feature a few sprinkles and or light showers. 15th - 18th, strong ridge of high pressure keeps us dry, but also cool and sunny. The next good chance of showers comes on the 19th. Now, while I don`t want to ruin thoughts about spring....we 'might' could see a little snow on the afternoon/evening of the 19th(00z) as 12 to 24hr precip totals are about .25", 850MB temps of -6C with heights of 1270M, and a 516MB voricity lobe just about over Seattle area and also somewhat of a northerly flow. Will have to see what happens.

And viewing the daily PNA and NAO obs....PNA goes slightly positive by 16th of this month, while the NAO takes a very steep nose dive by that time frame. -- Andy

Well i don't think we need to worry much about the details for the next week right now. As R-Dub and S.W. said, I think we are clearly going towards colder weather even if it is gradual... Next week should be quite seasonably cold and the new 0z suggests a reenforcement shot of cold air around day 8... Now it doesn't look TOO impressive right now but by tomorrow it could be a full bore outbreak... You never know with these things.

TT, I don't really care anymore with you... Do what you do best and i'll ignore the nonsense and intake the great knowledge you do have... I just wish it wasn't overshadowed by the name TTSEA that I dread every time I read off of here. Your posts are very predictable now that I have been reading them for the last couple of weeks... I guarentee your next post will contain something of how your prediction of last week was pretty correct, how tomorrow will be a pretty warm day with temps reaching 60 in some places, March will be stormy with lots of mountain snow... i swear if i read all of your posts I could summarize them in a paragraph... I'll ignore you, you ignore me, do what you have to do and continue on with your love for spring and warm weather....

Anchorage has 2 new feet of snow and it is still coming down... I wonder where the Alaskan guy is from the Old Farmers Almanac forum right now.... R-dub, Brian, Snowwizz, Anthony... Have you guys heard much from him or anything lately? It'd be cool to see some pics and hear how things have been up there this winter...

Brennan... cool.

The reason you hate seeing my user name come up is because I refuse to sit on here and come up with every possible scenario that will turn Western Washington into the Yukon in the next week.

I constantly bring you back to reality. Yes reality.

The reality that everyone else sees looking out their window.

Anthony is being even more harsh in his hope for permanent spring... telling you guys to give up the cold weather talk.

I certainly do not think we are slowly slipping back into winter. We are gaining almost 4 minutes of sunlight a day. Yet we could still get something... I just think you are way too dramatic.

Nope, I am not too dramatic at all... I could care less about getting 4 more minutes of light each day, that doesn't take anything away from having a huge second half of winter... Look at 1951... did the daylight that winter stop anything from happening late in the winter? I don't think so... I could mention other winters but I don't think you really care.

And no it's not that you slip me back into reality... Of course not... You aren't taking anything away from what I think is going to happen. You havn't effected me one bit... I dread your name on here because it just puts a damper on the excitement... This isn't just a place to come lay down a 5 day forecast and tell everyone you are right... It's also a place to come and talk about amazing possibilities and have fun with the weather a little bit... There is nothing wrong with talking about possibilities... You seem to have a problem with it though.

Yeah I know Anthony is talking about spring and all that junk... It doesn't seem like the real him from back in early january when he was wanting snow just as bad as a lot of us on here. I don't get why he has given up on this winter... I hope he gets the faith back when this next weekend is over.

TT you need some pizazz and you'd be great... you are great with facts and forecasts and all of that... Add some excitement to your knowledge instead of being a boring ol' weather man... I know, or, I think you know about the possibilities of a LITTLE snow over the weekend but you are totally brushing by it and saying it won't happen... Maybe you could state both possibilities instead of throwing the snow chance in the gutter...

TT...You must admit your prediction for Seattle's low today was way off. I told you guys we would have a string of cold nights, and we did. Seattle 4 degrees from a record low...hmmm...not exactly spring like. I will admit it's a weak record, but still.

Anthony...After this winter you will learn to not give up so easily. There are signs all over the place that you are wrong about winter being over. Have you noticed how the El Nino has completley collapsed in the past week. Also consider that Anchorage is finally getting cold and snowy weather. Up until now they were having a winter with very little snow. Things are changing...you are wrong...Guaranteed! How can anybody give up so early. In 1870 we had a nothing all the way through until mid March. At that point we had a full fledged Arctic blast and snow that lasted for 10 days. I am betting you would have given up on that year way before it finally happened.

Interesting...the departure from normal for Sea-Tac's daily average temperature on Thursday was MINUS 3 degrees. How is 3 degrees BELOW normal in early Feb the same as spring? I don't think that Brennan and I are the ones that need the reality check. Sea - Tac's low was 29...that's reality.

TT everyone makes mistakes... i think it's best to come out and admit them though... If it is in the mid 50's early next week i'll give it up 4 you but otherwise I don't think you can say that we need a reality check...

Snow_Wiz and Brennan... you guys just need to realize that you are strange in your extreme views. You twist everything to a winter slant. That is a fact. If you cannot see that... you need ask some other people around you.

I love weather. When something exciting happens I am all over it. But I am realistic.

It is not going to be the mid to upper 50's next week. I said that it was a tough forecast due to the tropical low pressure to the south.

Still... it will be a nice week overall.

You guys get so exicted about a little frost while telling us that yesterday with a high 51 degrees felt like winter!! Thats not what everyone I talk to is saying about this incredible weather and sunshine!!

Looking at this morning 06z and 12z GFS....we can expect some showers for Saturday and Sunday with maybe a scattered shower or two on Monday. 15th - 18th or so...is looking mostly sunny, but also cool as 850MB temps are around -3 to maybe -6C, with 500MB voricitys of 546DM. The next chance of showrs comes about the 19th through the 21st. -- Andy

.DISCUSSION...WILL BE MAKING A FEW CHANGES IN THE SHORT TERM...PARTICULARLY TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. STRONG HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES ACROSS THE EASTERN PART OF WASHINGTON AND THE OFFSHORE FRONT AND LOW IS SHOWING SIGNS OF SPLITTING APART. NO CHANGE TO THE FORECAST TODAY. IT WILL BE MILD AND DRY AFTER SHALLOW 800 FT THICK FOG BURNS OFF. WITH TEMPERATURES ALREADY NEAR 50 ALONG THE FOOTHILLS IN ELY FLOW AND CROSS CASCADE GRADIENTS OVER 8 MB...HIGHS IN THE MID AND UPPER 50S...EXCEPT COOLER IN SW INTERIOR SHELTERED VALLEYS...LOOKS GOOD. TONIGHT THROUGH SAT MORNING WILL SLOW THE CLOUDS AND PRECIPITATION ONSET BY ABOUT 6 HOURS FROM THE PREVIOUS FORECAST. THEN COOL ONSHORE FLOW KICKS IN BEHIND THE EJECTING SYSTEM SAT...THEN INTO SUN AS UPPER TROUGH KICKS THROUGH. HIGH AND DRY LATER MON THRU THU AS A BLOCK SETS UP JUST OFFSHORE. COOL WITH NORTHERLY FLOW ALOFT. LATE IN THE EXTENDED THE GFS SHOWS A BIG TROUGH DIGGING DOWN THE WEST COAST. PREFER THE RIDGE AND HIGHER HEIGHTS SUPPORTED BY THE ECMWF VERSUS THE NEW AND WILD LOOKING GFS. GFS LOOKS LIKE IT MAY BE FORCING TOO MUCH COLD AIR THROUGH THE TERRAIN IN WRN CANADA FORCING A WAVE TO DEVELOP JUST OFFSHORE.

Just what I thinking!!!!
