LOL Deb

Well when I joined TWC in August 2000, I chose the name hurricanedude without knowing one already existed at the old Storm97 boards. When I came here, I used the name The_other_HD and eventually shortened it to OtherHD.

BTW, I am still hurricanedude at TWC, Wxchat, and a few other boards. ;)

Ya ever seen a snowman in Arizona? "LOL" Most people when they think of Arizona think of desert. I live in the mountains of Az where our average snowfall per year is over 132" +

Hmmmmmm......Started in the Floral Industry when I was 15! After 25 years as a florist, I changed jobs to get the benefit of good insurance for a sick child. I now teach Floral Design in an Ornamental Horticulture class at a vocational school (been there 15 years).....and have my own business where I do wedding flowers on weekends.............hence; petal*pusher!!..............p :wink:

I originally needed to come up with a "stage" name for singing karaoke, so "Storm" fit ... way too many Mikes signing up to sing.

When I finally joined another message board (from someone else who had talked me into it from talking with him on Yahoo! Messenger ...).
I used "Stormsfury" because I had to find something that wasn't already being used by someone else.

Widre, from Old English gewidre (storm), although I thought at the time that the ge prefix was optional like it was for past participles (but it is in fact not optional). Mann = man in Old English. Put them together and you got WidreMann.

Neat!! mine is so dull.. LOL

azskyman - spent almost my entire life studying weather and sharing its mysteries with others...thus the "skyman" part. Az for Arizona, of course...the nickname I've had since I moved here in 1997.

Many of you have heard this before, but I'll do it again:

As weather fans, you have an idea of the Coriolis effect. In a rotating air mass, the air has an apparent direction, but due to the rotation of the earth, the air ends up going somewhere other than the apparent destination. Life does that to you too. You think you're headed somewhere, and you end up somewhere else.

(is that how you spell apparent?)

Normally, here in Minnesota we have to put up with so many blizzards, it isn't even funny. But the last few years I have been pretty disappointed. Maybe I should give this name to someone on the East coast....lol
Anyway, I had to come up with a nick that was weather related and that seemed to be the best fit at the time.

that, and I felt that it fit who I am....

Ariz=Arizona
Wx=Weather
Pronounced:'ArizWIX'
I took this name after moving here in 1993 from the SF Bay Area.The Internet and message boards were very new,really in thier infancy as faster processors and 'web sites' were all the new rage.
I did use a handle on the C-Band/Two-Ways/RF/and Analog Cellulars,stormchasing,(Ninos and Sierra Nevada Blizzards,Tornadoes,Hurricanes) in California,Colorado,Florida and Mexico,which I took from my Navy flying days ''Z-TORO'' which is ''Z"= Lightning Death Warrior(Hoisted Japanese Pacific Fleet 'Z' Aviation 'Attack'Signal Pennant,which was last used to launch the Mitsubishi 'Z'-ero Attack Fighters on 07DEC,1941) TORO(=bull) dj=my nickname.It came to be 'zdjtoro' for those of you that have known me for quite sometime.'zdj' was my common nickname as well as 'Sonny'.
After moving to SE AZ,I found that the Mexican Monsoon had inter relationships with the EPAC,the Mexican Sierra Madre,Ninos,Ninas,Easterly Waves retrograding from dying Tropical Storms in the GOM,and of course the great 'Rimmers'(Svr T-strms+) of the Mogollon(pronounced MOH-GEE-YONE) Rim and White Mtns of AZ where Dennis and Michelle live.
There was no Storm2k.WWBB did not yet exist,as the 'Wright-Weather'LLC folks were soley pay per Wx service providers for Duke Power in the Carolinas and later expanded.
TWC was just a tick over 10 yrs old..and the BB was to become my home shortly after 1996.
I found though,a small band of Arizona Wx Junkies on the web..'arizonastormclub' via yahooclubs.It was run by a dude up in Phoenix and visited by 10 or so of us.I still have storm pix up on that site.
Aslkahuna,became my online teacher,mentor and well respected AZ Storm Chaser.He taught me the idiosyncrysies of Arizona Topography,Dewpoints,'Shadows',88-D Altitude Glitches,Virga and of course the EPAC Ciclones Tropicales..'Huracan'!
Beforehand though,and before I 'met' the 'Kahuna' online,a 'Wedge Tornado' struck Metro Tucson and creamed the NW Suburbs very close to me.I was entralled,amazed that such a Twister was possible here!I was hooked,and have been posting online ever since.The 'Kahuna' chased that storm with his pup 'Zig-Zag' and I with my late Spaniel WxBuddy 'Joe Cocker'as we put him down from Cancer shortly after Christmas, of 2000.Franklin is his near twin!
The 'Kahuna' and I had not yet 'met' online!Warren Faidley was out chasing,photographing that day,as the Vortex passed very near his homestead.I learned later there were many 'Arizona Weather' chasers out there.
Then came AzSnowman,AZSkyman and all the rest of the Arizona Esprit du Corps and 'AZ' became nearly interchangeable on the BBs..and somehow,we never got confused.I am blessed to have such Commraderie!
I have been 'Arizwx' to all of these people,places,websites,and correspondances for years.Even my Boys,when the wind shifts from the super heated 'Dry Westerlies' of June to the Wet So'Easterlies of July,and the Cumulo Towers Migrate in from Old Mexico, know me as 'Arizwx'!

Just changed mine from winterstorm '03 to GAStorm. I thought the winterstorm '03 name was a big jinx for winter weather here in north GA! :lol: We didn't have a winter at all here as far as snowfall is concerned. :( Anyway, I liked GAStorm better so I will definitely stick with it!
