Almost everyone is still in the upper 30s, after 1:00pm. I love the nice clean crisp feel to the air today! It should have no problem plunging into the low to mid 20s almost everywhere tonight. That of course is assuming the skies are clear. Right now that looks like a good bet. I think we will see freezing temps by about 7:00pm or sooner. On a frosty night in the spring, lows would normally drop below below freezing in the wee hours of the morning, not in the early evening. How is that possible, if spring is already here...just had to throw that in...

Very interesting day in Mukilteo. Just as I was leaving for 0 period around 5:30am, it started snowing...pretty heavily. Within 15 minutes, we had about a half an inch. Didn't really stick to the road, but some of the side streets and all the grass was covered.

Then around 9am, it started to snow again pretty heavily...it snowed another half an inch before stopping 45 minutes later.

And now just getting home from school, there's NO snow on the ground and the current temperature is 41F. We went from the heart of winter to the heart of spring within a few hours.

As for the extended, nothing new. Another cooler trough moves through this weekend, but yet another ridge develops next week. Looks like this pattern will continue for the rest of winter.

Many points... so little time.

First... the observations show many places at or above 40 degrees right now.

Second... I agree with Snow_Wizzard on the beauty of this day. Crisp and clean. Big puffy clouds. Visually it is VERY much like spring. Lots of sunshine now which is not a characteristic of December with this upper air pattern. Spring has sprung.

Finally... the snow squalls are also spring-like. I left the house in North Bend (working from home today) at 10:30 a.m. to run errands in Seattle. It was beautifully sunny here. Then I hit a snow squall in Issaquah and it looked very winter-like. There was probably 2 inches of snow on I-90 itself and everything was caked in white. Then I got to Bellevue and it was sunnny and green.

I came through there again just 90 minutes later and spring had won the battle. The sun was shining brightly... ALL the snow was gone and nothing but green grass was visible. I was even surprised at the transformation. That was a lot of snow to melt in that short period. But the sun is strong now. In December (with this pattern) that snow would have stayed for 3 days. But that amazing mid-February sun burned through the clouds leaving just a few cumulus and melted every trace of the snow.

Incredible.

That is spring!!

The 18Z run of the ETA has sunshine the rest of the week.

AND... 850mb temperatures rising from -7C today to -3C tomorrow and all the way up to 0C by Wednesday and Thursday. With offshore flow and very little fog we should see some 50's this week!!

Awesome.

I bet there will be some 50's in areas that saw 50's last week. I expect to see low 40's or even upper 30's like today the rest of the week here in my area. Have a feeling the lows might be even colder then last week.

I disagree Randy.

Low temperatures might be chilly but your days should start out with sunshine instead of fog and that means you should get into at least the upper 40's. You will probably be in the low 50's by Thursday.

The inversion kept things cool in the day last week. No inversion this week and 20 minutes more daylight... and sunshine all day long... should do the trick!!

Now if an inversion does form then you might be right... but its not likely at all.

NWS forecasts 50 degrees all the way up in Bellingham by Wednesday.

No inversion and sunshine. This week will feature big swings with cold nights and warm sunny days.

Going to be clear with great visibility as well.

Didn't really have any fog last week, but also I am not an expert in inversion, or non inversions or how to forecast them, so maybe you are right TT.

I'll post my daily high each evening this week, and see who was closer with there forecast 8-)

I'll post my lows also.

Your lows are going to be cold. Particularly tonight and tomorrow night.

But you almost got to 40 degrees today with some clouds and 850mb temps around -7C. You can expect at least 10 degrees warmer by Wednesday or Thursday with 850mb temperatures near 0C... total sunshine... and drier air.

The weather is very deceiving today...if you look out the window, spring comes to mind. But if you go outside, it surely feels like winter. February is usually a transitional month that can have many extremes...I think today follows that rule.

As for the extended, 850 mb heights rise drastically by Wednesday...approaching 0C. That should bring temperatures up to at least 50F and with a moderate easterly breeze, wouldn't be surprised if some foothill areas saw 60F by Thursday.

Another trough passes through next weekend, but with each GFS run the trough looks weaker and weaker. Maybe a continued stretch of sunny/warm weather...I wouldn't mind that.

Temperatures have already started to fall...now down to 39F.

ok the talk of spring is crazy. I hate it. It's not spring... I even got snow in Bellingham if you think the snow was so isolated to lynwood/everett area.... It snowed really early this morning because I woke up at 7:15 and there was a light dusting on the ground. Shortly before I left at 8:30 it began snowing pretty heavily and it was sticking to the grass. When I left my house it was pretty much a white out. When I got to school there wasn't anything because it was at sea level but when I called my mom at 11:30 she said it had started snowing heavily again and it was sticking at 33.5*... It is currently 39 with broken clouds and on the downfall. I don't see how you can say this is a spring type day.

We just had a snow shower come through the area 10-15 minutes ago. The snow was very sort lived though, and only gave the roads a little bit of slush and a little bit of accumulation in the grassy areas. It reminded me though, that winter is nto quite done with us yet. :D

Wow! A quintessential WINTER day today! Fresh powder snow flocking the trees on even the lowest peaks, snow in the lowlands, a nice chill in the air, and now...piercing blue skies that promise one of the coldest nights this winter! The average temp this week will undoubtedly be well below over the entire area. We will use Sea - Tac as the standard for that. It might be interesting to check and see if any record lows may be in danger...

I will enjoy a nice warm fire and a warm beverage on this cold WINTERS night!

Interesting note...

Stevens Pass received almost 20 inches of new snow this weekend.

Snoqualmie Pass received 2-3 inches of new snow.

It's amazing what that PSCZ can do. Not good news for Snoqualmie Pass, but AWESOME news for Stevens Pass. And even better news!!! STEVENS PASS IS REOPENING ON THURSDAY!!! I feel a skip-day coming on!!

Anthony

35F with clear, blue skies.
