#1 Postby Jrodd312 » Mon Feb 21, 2005 4:52 pm

Accuweather is hinting at a possible snowstorm late week from Kentucky all the way to New England. .

just when you think its over, it comes right back in. Temperatures will be diving in a few days and the jetstream goes way down, I think a snowstorm is a real possibility.

I've only had like 4 inches this winter season in Eastern KY...

I got my hopes up on every storm here since the Christmas one and they are all near misses.

I will try not to get my hopes up but when my area is highlighted with SNOWSTORM written across it, its hard not to.

Jrodd312,

This is now a very exciting pattern. Even if the late-week event does not materialize, after the weekend, there should be another possibility. That latter one has been hinted at for sometime by the ensembles, so it might pose a more serious threat than the earlier one.

Storm 1 isn't going to be that far north and intense IMO, most likely inbetween the Accuweather tracks. Though it may give areas that have been screwed over this year, some measureable snowfall.

As Don said, something seems up for the March 28-March 2 timetable that could be huge. My hope is that it ends the pattern and warm spreads out through the East!!!!!!!

krysof - I'm glad to see that you're "coming around".

I didn't have as much snow as you did as per your post in Cycloneye's President's day snow totals. I only had 1 - 2 inches of snow and most of it melted today.

krysof is "sort of" coming around (unless you count his/her "Countdown to Spring" thread in this forum).

well 1/2 of it melted today anyway, I do think we will see something, its about time those areas got measurable snowfall. It's still a few days away but it could be a big threat, at least up to the mid atlantic areas.

Yes Don. A lot of things are setting up for the mother of all storms.

1. PNA forecasted to go very positive (+3 or +4)
2. NAO tanking (possibly off the charts)
3. AO tanking (-3 or -4)
4. Split Jetstreams with PLENTY of moisture from the southern and a lot of cold air from the northern.

I really do think that places like Washington and Philly who kind of "missed" out on this last one have a good chance at seeing a very good amount of snowfall.

One of the members here "Noreaster_jer_04 has a website for the philly area and i think his forecasting is excellent. He also has the idea of the mother of all storms forming in early march. His website is http://members.tripod.com/jer_19605/ber ... index.html

Overall, i think many cities in the mid alantic will see good measurable snowfall before this winter is over (which could be a long way aways).

Snowstorm for philly??? (http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod ... _252.shtml) Just some for for thought.

I think we are finally going to get a major winter storm in Philly area end of the week. Models indicating storm stays to the south, however, this seems to be recurring error this winter, with most storms migrating farther north. I predict 1 foot of snow in Philly Friday...

Well, I was just looking at the GFS and it's showing a strong area of low pressure riding up the Appalachains toward Philly and ending up right over Philly Mar. 5th, before heading up the new England coast. That would be great for my area for a big snowfall. But, I'm not getting my hopes up yet because I always hear a lot of people on here talk about how the GFS is crap so I don't know. What are all the other models suggesting, since they seem to be the more reliable ones, concerning that possible storm?

all of the other models are basically in agreement with the GFS regarding monster storm moving up east coast next week. I still think the storm this week will move further north and west of predicted track, throwing signficant snows into Philly area; we'll see!

it has that potential, nothing is sure until the low actually develops and moves

Yes, it looks like he is trying to"come around", but I have yet to see him eat crow like some others I know here and admit his "no snow for the rest of February" statement was incorrect. A good "forecaster" will openly admit he busted it and explain why.

From the NY weather service

"MODEL CONSENSUS FOR LATER THURS AND THURS NIGHT HAS TRENDED FURTHER
NORTH WITH SYSTEM. I DON'T HAVE TO GET INTO DETAILS WHY THIS HAS
HAPPENED...BUT IT JUST SEEMS EVERY LOW THAT HAS COME ZIPPING ACRS
THE OH VALLEY/MID ATLC LAST 2 SEASONS HAS VERIFIED FURTHER NORTH
THAN THE MODELS PROG. I DON'T THINK THIS WILL BE AN EXCEPTION.
