Justin...Are you sure you had 60 today? We only got to 54. It would be very odd indeed if you were 6 degreees warmer. This year, anything is possible!

I'm still surprised how popular this thread is.

Krysof...Just wait until we get some real weather to talk about! On the other hand, what we are getting now is just plain weird! Some places around here have frozen lakes and inch thick frost, while others have people mowing their lawns and flowers blooming. Keep in mind, I am talking about places only a few miles apart in some cases!

I am telling you and anybody else that will llisten, this year is going to be remembered as a turning point in the weather. Not just for this area, but for the pattern in general. The big question is...what is it changing to?

Speaking of flowers blooming....I`ll most likely be working in my garden most of tomorrow to add some well-rich organic compost to my raised garden beds. -- Andy

I am going off of what WeatherBug said. Since I have had WeatherBug, it has always been right for my area (the station it is reprting from is less than a few miles away). Maybe it was on the warm side today, I don't know.

It at least got 55+ since that was how warm it was on our truck thermometer.

I agree Snowwiz, I also think this summer and next winter will be much different then what we have been seeing. By the end of next winter, we will probably be hoping for this type of calm weather again!!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA 845 PM PST MON FEB 21 2005

.DISCUSSION...BREEZY NORTH WINDS WILL DIE DOWN AFTER MIDNIGHT AND CONDITIONS COULD GET A BIT STAGNANT. AFTERNOON BREEZES HAVE TENDED TO MIX THINGS UP A BIT UNDER OUR DOME OF HIGH PRES BUT WHEN WIND DIES DOWN IN THE MORNING SOME STAGNATION OCCURS. OTHER THAN THAT WEATHER REMAINS SAME FOR NEXT 3 DAYS...CLEAR AND COOL. IF GFS IS RIGHT RIDGE WILL SHIFT INLAND ALLOWING CLOUDS INTO THE AREA ON FRI. IN FACT A DYING FRONT MOVES THROUGH ON FRI NIGHT. CURRENT IDEA IS THAT IT WILL IN FACT BE DEAD...NO RAIN AT ALL. GFS HAS DRIBS AND DRABS HOWEVER. BURKE

The 0z is very disappointing. No well organized systems for the next two weeks. All we can do is hope it's wrong.

Looking at 00z GFS...we continue onward with our dry and mostly sunny period at least through friday the 25th. Saturday the 26th may start out sunny, but look for an increase in clouds with maybe some light sprinkels for Saturday late afternoon/early evening. For the 27th and 28th, a small chance of showers looks possible. GEM model however, shows precip for Seattle area for the even of March 2nd. -- Andy

The 00Z GFS run looks very, very strange after day 7 or so. Almost impossible.

I think this is an example of it losing track of the pattern. Some variable throws it out of whack and it spirals out of control.

For the first few days though it shows a general break down of the current pattern.

Like I said before... the weekend is actually looking normal for February. Low near 40 and highs in the low 50's. It will be nice to have warmer nights again!! Even if it means cooler and cloudier days.

TT...I hope you're right. The thing that gives me some hope is the fact this does not agree well with previous runs. If we go two more weeks, and nothing is in sight then, I will be at a total loss to figure out what's going on. Past history insists that March should have at least normal precip.

Already down to 30 in Covington at 10:00pm. It looks inevitable that this will be our 8th consecutive low of 25 or below, which will equal the number in Feb 1989. I guess I will have to look for the next one to beat!

Update...The next standard to beat is 12 from Nov / Dec 1985. That one is probably safe.

I've got 29F at my house right now. Lets hope we aren't entering a period of drought that lasts several years.

If we are going to be in a drought, I hope it's a cold one. 1928 - 30 and the year 1952 are excellent examples of a cold drought. The 1928 - 30 drought began with a very dry Feb.

It is still way too early to say we are in a drought at all yet. We will know a lot more by early summer.
