TOP 5 WETTEST RAINY SEASONS in southern california...

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Tue Feb 22, 2005 6:00 am

Following the stories you folks likely saw or experienced on the California storms, I wanted to depict the brutal truth of why we're experiencing some of the worse flooding and mudslides in recent memory across southern California. Both San Diego and Los Angeles, California are experiencing their top 5 wettest rainy seasons on record. We will add more to this rain today and tomorrow in southern California as a upper level low slowly moves in from the Pacific and into california. Severe weather with isolated tornadoes may also occur in this particular region as well. It sounds like a broken record for Los Angles and San Diego.

TOP 5 WETTEST RIANY SEASONS IN SAN DIEGO

1. 1883-84...................25.97
2. 1940-41...................24.74
3. 1977-78...................18.71
4. 1921-22...................18.65
5. 2004-05...................18.33

TOP 5 WETTEST RAINY SEASONS IN LOS ANGELES

1. 1883-1884 38.18
2, 1889-1890 34.84
3. 1977-1978 33.44
4. 1940-1941 32.76
5. 2004-2005 31.36

I will keep very close tabs on this ongoing story, something I'll follow for days to come.

The sad thing is that it is still raining here and another storm might come in by late this weekend or early next week, which is just what we do not need right now... :( . Wish us the best and hope that we don't float away anytime soon over here.

I mean yes we needed some drought relief (key word "SOME"), but NOT all at once!!!

It has been brutal

This storm system has just been brutal. We have had every type of severe weather you can imagine. Unfortunately, our landscape is not built for 31 inches of rain in 5 months. That is the major problem. That's why you are seeing people dying and landslides galore. I just came into work and the business next to me (an auto repair shop) collapsed yesterday.

The rain willl be more off & on today, but we are expecting the most severe weather as well....snow could fall at 3,000 ft and storms will carry deadly lightning hail and small tornadoes. My area is under a tornado watch, so it will be a long afternoon.

I wish I could tape just one segment of our local news...and send it to all of you...it is simply amazing...its devestating...all the people loosing their homes, businesses and lives to these storms, the mudslides...a rockslide fell into a 16 yr old girls house and killed her as she was typing away on her computer...thats just one story...we lost 3 ppl yesterday alone...

I get excited bc of the snowfall amounts we get at Big Bear bc my kids are always up there snowboarding, but what these storms are doing down below is creating total chaos and devestation :(.

We are below a hill and I just hope and pray that our hill does not give way...its such a nightmare in So Cal right now...

What about 1969 ?I was a kid living in the Santa Clarita area, and I recall some of the stories from that season.Lots of mudslides. Some people wound up having to boil their water before they could drink it.I also remember the rainy season of 1977/1978.I was in highschool.I can't imagine it getting any worse than that, but I guess it has
