Andrew...We are currently at 15 lows of 32 or below for the month. I am hoping for a perfect 20. The last time we had a month with 20 or more was Feb 1993. The thing that really blows my mind is 9 straight lows of 25 or below...Wow! I don't care what anybody says, this is only a false spring at best, with those kinds of numbers.

We had a high / low of 60 - 23 today. Even after hitting 60 today, I still think tomorrow morning will be 25 or below again. The dew point on Stampede Pass today was only 11 degrees, so we could even go lower than 23. The temp has already plunged to 43. This is some of the most continental type weather I have ever seen here!

I was very pleased to see that this is being compared to 1977 - 78! The winter of 1978 - 79 had many cold spells and some decent snows. Olympia actually got down to -7 in Jan 1979. That was the coldest Janauary between 1969 and now, in most areas. It is going to take me some time to sift through comparable years to get an idea of where this is all going! We are in some really unusual territory here. It is safe to say, we are not going to see any long stretches of "normal" weather any time soon. Everything is way too out of whack. This is actually quite exciting in many ways.

The record low count for this month now stands at:

Olympia - 3

Seattle...Sand Point - 2

Sea - Tac - 1

A weird, weird month to say the least. With all of the stories about spring in the paper, you would think this is impossible! The average low at my place, this month, is now 28.8...Brrrr!

It's still 59 degrees in North Bend and Sammamish, yet 32 in Kingston. Quite a range of temperatures.

We are down to 40 in Covington, and falling like a brick. This has sure been one of the cold night spots lately.

Certainly a much more promising GFS tonight! At day 7 we are reasonably wide open for some cool moist air to flow in here. I am almost afraid to look beyond that!

Snow_Wizzard... You failed to mention the 2 record HIGHS at Sand Point as well.

Just came in from outside and it feels like a summer night. In some ways warmer than a normal summer night. It still 61 degrees here.

Yes... the 00Z run of the GFS looks better.

Remember I stand firm on my prediction of a wild March. Its coming. Eventually the models will catch up with reality.

I am very excited for some real rain and mountain snow.

61 degrees! Wow! It is already down to 37 here. This is a case where the dry air pouring into your area will seep into this area and allow the temps to plunge due to low dew points. You have got to love the foothills climate...so bizarre. I would expect you will be 20 degrees colder tomorrow night as the offshore flow dies to almost nothing.

Did you notice that the 0z shows the ridge rebuilding but then moving westward? That could get really interesting as time goes on.

I figured I would leave the record highs for you to mention.

Getting cold here now... 59 degrees!!

Yep...when the offshore flow dies it will be colder here. But still... I think we are done with frost in North Bend. Should be mid to upper 30's after tonight.

The 00Z run of the GFS looks a little strange after day 7. We are not going to know exactly how this will play out until it gets closer. Just know that anytime a model shows ridging over us after March 1st... its wrong.

Most anything can happen... but not ridging.

Well good evening all. Hope everyone enjoyed the nice spring-like weather today! A fine day indeed!

Latest 00z GFS tonight shows our dry and sunny weather lasting up through the evening of the 28th...as that is when we could see a few showers around. Tomorrow looks to be another mild day as 850MB temps are +4C to +6C, and 500MB heights still at or around 564DM, and only cool slightly over the weekend to near 558DM. So maybe calling the weekend a partly cloudy to somewhat overcast as a weak storm system nears WA coast for later Sunday into Monday.
Get out and enjoy the nice weather while it lasts!!

Here`s a pic of the bright shining moon that took from out back deck just a little bit ago. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ajc192004 ... pg&.src=ph

Amazing! Shelton has already dropped 32 degrees tonight.

I thought the 26 degree drop from 60 to 34 at my place was impressive...

My friend and I went up to Lake Geneva last night around 4 PM and built a fire on the shore and believe it or not we walked across the whole entire lake... I don't know why but walking on a lake just amazes me for some reason... As I was standing out in the middle I couldn't help to think that there was 30 feet of water under my feet. I had nothing to worry about though, the ice is now 6 1/2 inches thick up there. VERY IMPRESSIVE considering it got up to 42* up there today... The ice didn't melt a bit though. We broke a few holes with an axed and that was the only water we saw in the lake... I don't know why, but the part of the ice we broke through with the ax had begun refreazing when it was still 36*... It was weird but I guess the air temperature right above the ice is a lot colder than the actual air temperature 50 feet from the lake. I snapped some digital photos up there and I know I have been saying I'll get to posting my pics but I just havn't gotten to it yet...DON'T WORRY I'LL GET THEM... Got up to 47 at my house today :-) Warmest in a long time.

Also drove around to the Sunny Side of Lake Whatcom today and it really like driving along the lake in the middle of summer. I parked the car for a half hour in the sun while I skipped some rocks in the water and scanned the beautiful scenery and when I got back and opened up the car door it was BAKING in there... Had to use the air conditioning... It's 4:07 in the morning right now and the ground is HARD AS A ROCK and more frozen than it has been in the last two weeks... The frost actually melted today so tonight when it refroze things really turned white and the ground froze stiff...

Well we are much warmer then we have been at 6:15AM, sitting at 32.9 degrees!

Sounds like a fun time Brennan, I also walked across our large frozen pond at work, reminds me of the days when I would walk across LK Goodwin. Last time the ice was thick enough to do that here was winter of 1992/1993. In Jan/Feb of 1989 there were people with quad runners on the frozen lake
Miss those days!!

No frost anywhere around here this morning!!

Currently 57 degrees at 9:15 a.m. heading for 70 degrees later today.

Could a wet pattern be developing for next week? Could it be?? Well... my prediction of a pattern change around March 1st looks to be perfectly on track.

Here is the precipitation for Tuesday through Thursday of next week. That looks more normal.

Good. Hopefully March will come in like a lion and stay that way. I can't wait to see some weather and start posting things other than the temperature.
