The Storm2K Worldwide Tropical Update for 24 February 2005 at 18Z.

Invest (xxx/97W) (24/18Z)
Position: 2.3N 179.6E (660 mi SE of Majuro, Marshall Islands)
Movement: ***
Winds: 15 mph
Pressure: 1006 mb / 29.71"
Dvorak Est: Too weak

This invest is fairly weak, but has a slight chance for development.

Invest (xxx/97S) (24/18Z)
Position: 9.8S 83.0E (745 mi SE of Diego Garcia)
Movement: ***
Winds: 15 mph
Pressure: 1006 mb / 29.71"
Dvorak Est: T1.0/1.0

This invest is beginning to develop some and will be monitored for further intensification.

Invest (xxx/98P) (24/18Z)
Position: 8.0S 179.6W (90 mi SE of Funafuti, Tuvalu)
Movement: ***
Winds: 30 mph
Pressure: 1002 mb / 29.59"
Dvorak Est: T1.5/1.5

Although the latest Dvorak estimates are too weak to be displayed, expect numbers to come out fairly soon. This wave has intensified throughout the day, but will continue to battle shear for a little while longer. After the 24-36 hour point, expect shear to become lax and allow for development.

I meant to add this comment earlier... for Invest 98P... the JTWC has issued a TCFA. You can view the topic here on S2K about 98P (http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=58333). Model guidance paints this system to possibly affect Western Samoa/American Samoa and/or the Cook Islands in a few days. This will be the fourth system in a matter of weeks. The three prior systems (Meena, Nancy, and Olaf) were all major cyclones. This will definately be something to monitor as the clean up effort in that region continues.

I've amended the 18Z update to reflect the Dvorak estimates on Invest 98P from Too weak to T1.5/1.5.

It would not surprise me if we have Percy on our hands fairly soon...

I've added links to the webpage for the official advisories from Fiji as well as the Navy bulletins. Satellite imagery is available as well on 10F/20P.
