Guys, there is now way in hell that this storm will move further west-- it would have to defy the laws of physics and a little something called the "Coriolis Effect". (In the northern hemisphere, anything moving close to a vertical line turns to the right due to the spin the of the earth and it's tilted axis.)

I live in Minnesota; I don't really expect it to move that far LOL. From the places I have checked we have about a 20 - 30% chance of getting snow Saturday and Sunday; I am just hoping we can have one decent snowstorm this year! When I was in school we used to have 5-6 storm days a year - they haven't had to cancel school here this year (or last year) at all! Poor kids :)

I really hope you are right about that.

excuse my language but The mets are forecasting 3 feet of bullshit.

sorry, I just had to say it.

On the other hand, I just looked at this model and it is showing full-blown Blizzard status. I swear to God this think looks massive. It will have category 1 hurricane force winds with a few feet of snow. I know you're dying to know the track too.....it tracks....OFF SHORE...about 150 miles off the coast. That means Big-Time Snow for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

I am DEAD serious. I'm not out to cause heart attacks, but this thing is really showing insane levels of blizzard conditions. I'm going to get rolls of Film tomorrow for my camera and digital-8 camcorder. I will be prepared this time.

Some mets said this may be the strongest storm this winter, even stronger than late January huge snowstorm. Local mets are saying powerful winds are likely, a full blown nor'easter with very heavy precipitation, coastal flooding, and intense winds.

You mean big time snows for the coast right? Philly, Ny, Boston? Anyone inland won't get crap out of it then? Or are we saying that it's going to be so big that it's going to affect even inland areas with heavy snow? Being in Western PA, I don't want this thing going THAT far offshore. I want it to do what the NAM is still forecasting it to do. But, that's just me. :grr:

It's going to be so big, it will resemble a hurricane. It will span over much of the Eastern Seaboard with feeder bands coming in from Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. This will not be for the light hearted...

For my area:

".. Significant winter storm possible for the Shenandoah Valley and
the Potomac Highlands Sunday night into Monday...

A storm system is forecast to develop over the northern Gulf of
Mexico Sunday and track along the East Coast Monday. This system will
bring a swath of moderate to heavy precipitation to the region
beginning around midnight early Monday morning and continuing through
the day Monday. At this time... snow is expected to be main
precipitation type
with some rain possibly mixing in during the
afternoon at the lowest elevations.

At this time... there is the potential for accumulations greater than
5 inches. This storm could have a major impact on travel across
western Virginia... eastern West Virginia and western Maryland on
Monday. "

I live 40 miles southwest of NYC, I am begging for the storm to take the offshore track, if that happens than we will get slammed with heavy snow.

You may get your wish, I am sticking to between the coast and the gulf stream.

the nam model is throwing me off track, the nam model may be right? Why hasn't it shifted east, its like it keeps shifting west.

Could be interaction with the great lakes system. The scary thing is the NAM has been pretty good this entire winter, much better than the GFS. I still think too many models agree on an eastward track at this point to discard a nasty snow potential. Purduewx thinks huge Appalachian event, he is pretty good.

I disclaim any effect on the weather.

But seriously, I may be "on location" for this one. If it looks promising, I'll post observations.
