Naked Man Flashes Cars on Chilly Highway

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) - Chilly weather hasn't kept a naked man from flashing traffic on Interstate 65 in north Baldwin County in Alabama.

Sheriff's spokesman John Murphy said Thursday morning's incident was the ninth time since July 2004 that someone has flashed passing motorists on the interstate between the Stockton and Perdido exits.

"He runs up to the interstate, stands there for a few seconds, then runs away and vanishes," Murphy said.

State Trooper Sgt. Tommy Waters said motorists have described the flasher as a tall, thin, dark-haired man who is bald on top and has a ponytail.

The sightings have been in rural areas. There have been no wrecks or injuries as a result of the man's antics.

Waters said the man could be charged with indecent exposure, a misdemeanor, if arrested.

He said officers, who rushed to the scene several times, have never spotted the naked man.

Murphy said it is believed the man lives nearby and hides out after exposing himself or flees in a nearby vehicle.

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) - A 51-year-old woman has been hospitalized in the Czech Republic after eating a chicken her son seasoned with marijuana, the news agency CTK reported Monday.

The news agency said the woman from Ostrava, 218 miles east of Prague, was aware of the unusual seasoning, but fell ill after eating the dinner last week and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Her 20-year-old son has been charged with illegal possession and production of drugs and faces up to five years in prison if convicted.

Thieves Steal Built-In Swimming Pool

OSLO, Norway (AP) - A Norwegian family's swimming pool wasn't just bolted down, it was in the ground, but that was impediment to a band of determined thieves.

When the Nicolaysen family visited their mountain cabin over the weekend, they discovered a big hole in the yard in place of the swimming pool that had been installed 20 years ago.

"This can't be, we thought," Arild Nicolaysen told state radio network NRK on Monday. "We didn't think it was possible. No one can steal a swimming pool."

Evidently, someone did.

At some point between early November, when the family closed up the cabin for the winter, and the weekend, their pool, 16 feet in diameter, and all its equipment was uprooted and stolen.

"It must have been a terrible job to disassemble such a big pool. There is a steel lining all the way around, plus there is a plastic liner and then there was a skimming system, a filter system and a lot of big hoses, and pipes," said Brit Nicolaysen, who owns the cabin with her husband.

"They must have had a whole lot of time," she said.

Brit said no one, not even the police, believed them at first.

Police said they had never heard anything like it. They suspected the pool was taken for someone's private use, since there's not a market for 20-year stolen, in-ground pools.

Nude Man Steals, Wrecks Philly Police Car

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. (AP) - Police chased a naked man through the city's slushy streets early Monday after he allegedly stripped off his bathrobe, bit an officer, then stole a police cruiser in an attempt to escape.

The man was captured after he smashed the cruiser into several parked cars, abandoned the vehicle and tried to get away in his bare feet.

The episode unfolded at around 1:30 a.m. when police were called to a block in North Philadelphia to investigate complaints about a person screaming in the street. Officers arriving on the scene said they found a man running about in his bathrobe in the freshly fallen snow.

The officers gave chase. The man shed his robe, then allegedly bit a female officer on the arm, climbed into her patrol car and hit the gas. He drove only a few blocks before crashing, police said.

Police did not immediately release the suspect's name. He faces charges including car theft and assault.

Drug Suspect Dressed as Bishop....

CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - A 67-year-old Spaniard disguised as a Roman Catholic bishop was arrested in a Venezuelan airport with nearly 20 pounds (9 kg) of cocaine under his cassock, authorities said Saturday.

Angel Velasco Padilla was arrested this week at Maiquetia international airport near the capital Caracas as he tried to board a flight to Spain.

The suspect was carrying 17.4 pounds (7.9 kg) of cocaine in his belt plus 12 drug packets in his underwear, police said.

Velasco told authorities he was a member of a Dutch archdiocese and had been in Venezuela for a week to attend a meeting.

But a source from Venezuela's Catholic Church told Reuters that no Velasco was listed in the ecclesiastic registry or in the archdiocese to which he claimed to belong. He also denied there was any meeting in Venezuela.

"He is a Spanish citizen ... but he is not a bishop and he does not have any links in the church. He was disguised and presented false identification," the source said.

Velasco was charged with trafficking illegal substances and is being held by Venezuelan police. A 21-year-old Venezuelan man traveling with him was released.

Narcotics experts say large quantities of drugs, especially cocaine, are transported from neighboring Colombian across Venezuela and then shipped to the United States and Europe.

The man managed to pull himself out from under the vehicle and climbed inside.

The suspect is about 40 years old and was wearing a black toque.

Florida prosecutor arrested after running naked into wrong car

MIAMI, Florida (AFP) - A state prosecutor in Florida's island city of Key West is under arrest after he allegedly ran naked and drunk across a parking lot and hopped into the wrong car.

Albert Tasker of the local state prosecutor's office told police he had been drinking with friends and thought it would be funny to take off his clothes and run to a friend's car in the parking lot, according to the Florida Keys Citizen.

But Tasker, 28, apparently got into the back seat of the wrong car, much to the distress of the woman in the vehicle. The legitimate occupant screamed and called her boyfriend who telephoned police.

The prosecutor faces charges of disorderly intoxication and indecent exposure, and has been placed on administrative leave without pay, the daily said.

"It's terribly embarrassing for both him and for us," his boss, Jefferson Overby said.

Key West, the southernmost point in the continental United States, is famed for the often eccentric behavior of its residents, who once included US author Ernest Hemingway whose barroom brawls are legendary on the island.

Man Arrested For Bank Robbery After Allegedly Bragging On Radio Station

Police Arrest One Suspect In Dallas

CHICAGO, Illinois (KXAS NBC 5/AP) -- Federal officials say they have finally solved a bank robbery because a suspect bragged about the crime on a radio talk show.

A caller boasted on WKSC-FM that he and five others tied up employees at a TCF Bank branch in South Chicago Heights in April, took $81,000 and spent some of the money at expensive stores.

A bank employee heard the program last fall and called authorities, setting off a five-month investigation, according to a criminal complaint made public this week.

"The details he provided were incredibly helpful in moving this investigation forward," Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Brown said of the radio show caller.

Clear Channel Communications regional vice president John Gehron said the station gave investigators the cell phone number and a transcript and recording of the call.

The FBI said agents traced the phone to Randy Washington, 24, who was arrested Feb. 17.

Washington appeared in court this week on one count of bank robbery. William Slate, 19, was arrested in Dallas, and authorities are searching for four other people they believe were involved.

They face up to 20 years in prison if convicted, FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates said.

The FBI says Washington denies any involvement in the robbery, claiming he called the radio station to win a prize.

Man bites dog

EDINBURGH, Scotland (Reuters) - A blind man has been arrested in Scotland after witnesses reported he sank his teeth into his guide dog and kicked her across the road, police have said.

The incident allegedly occurred outside a busy shopping centre in Edinburgh.

David Todd, 34, is expected to face charges of cruelty to animals and breach of the peace.

A police spokeswoman said on Thursday the eight-year-old dog had been handed over to a charity dedicated to guide dogs.

"When we took her into custody. She had no apparent injuries," she added.

Todd is due to appear in court at a later date.

Burglars summon police for help when keys to getaway car are stolen

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - When two Danish burglars realized someone had stolen the keys to their getaway car, they reacted like honest citizens and called the police.

Police said they were only too happy to help, and arrested them after they confessed to breaking and entering.

The men, identified only as an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old, broke into a summer cabin late Wednesday near Kaldred, 90 kilometres west of capital Copenhagen.

As they carried their haul to the car, they were confronted by a passer-by who had witnessed the break-in and insisted that they return the stolen property.

To ensure they couldn't get away, the passer-by took the keys from their car and refused to return them.

"The two young men then called us and said they needed our help getting their keys back," Chief Supt. Asger Larsen said Thursday.

He said the two realized that without the keys, they would have to leave their car at the scene, which would put the police on their trail and lead to their arrest anyway.

"It's a pretty straightforward case for us, since this time, the thieves actually reported the robbery," Larsen said.

He declined to release the names of the suspects or the passer-by.

Police pursue half-naked driver

RIPON, Calif. (Court TV) - Getting a traffic violation ticket was the least of Christopher Studer's worries when police in Ripon, Calif., tried to stop him for traffic violations on Feb. 16.

The 30-year-old man was more concerned about how he would explain his bizarre state of undress. He was driving without pants or underwear.

Ripon police spokesperson Sgt. Steve Merchant said officers attempted to stop Studer's car because he had a broken taillight and had made an illegal left turn. Instead of stopping, the man led officers on a highway chase with speeds reaching 100 mph.

The car chase ended on the front lawn of a church where Studer, naked from the waist down, abandoned the car, and fled on foot.

Police briefly lost sight of the half-naked driver after he jumped over an 8-foot cement wall. But they later located him on the roof of a shed after a homeowner called to complain about someone running across his roof.

When officers instructed Studer to come down, he reportedly told them that he had broken his ankles. According to Merchant, Studer likely sustained his injuries when he leaped over the cement wall. Studer later told officers that he led them on the chase because he was embarrassed to be caught without his pants or underwear.

Studer was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries. The district attorney's office is currently reviewing charges against him which include traffic violations for the broken taillight and the illegal left turn, evading a police officer, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance paraphernalia for a crack pipe found in his car.

Merchant said Studer could also face an indecent exposure charge.

Robbery suspects arrested after flinging jewelry on highway in chase

GREENWICH, Conn. (Court TV/AP) — Two robbery suspects being chased by police hurled diamond rings and pearl necklaces onto a highway before their truck crashed and they were arrested, authorities said.

Interstate 95 was closed for nearly an hour Wednesday as officers looked for the jewelry. They filled several bags of watches, rings, necklaces and bracelets, including some pieces worth tens of thousands of dollars each.

Police said the two men forced their way into Manfredi Jewels Ltd. as employees opened it, then handcuffed the four employees at gunpoint and stole jewelry worth $1.9 million out of a safe that had just been unlocked.

None of the workers were injured. One escaped and called police, and officers chased a sport utility vehicle for 20 miles into New York City, where it crashed.

New York residents Tony P. Davis, 36, and Anthony T. Grant, 37, will likely be charged with first-degree armed robbery, Greenwich police Chief James Walters said. Both have previous robbery convictions in New York.

Police were looking for a third man they believe was the getaway driver. He ran away after the crash.

Connecticut has had several high-profile jewelry store robberies in recent weeks. Shop owners Timothy and Kimberly Donnelly were shot to death in a robbery Feb. 2 in Fairfield.

Car Thief Caught After Falling Asleep

RICHMOND, British Columbia (AP) - It wasn't hard for the Mounties to get their man in a car theft, even though it had not been reported.

Alerted by a passer-by, officers found a man asleep at the wheel of a car with the lights on early Sunday. The motor was running and a screwdriver was in the ignition, Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.

The man was sleeping so soundly that police were unable to rouse him by yelling through a bullhorn. When they pounded on the door, he finally woke up, opened the door and emerged with the car in gear.

Officers responded quickly to keep the vehicle from rolling away.

A quick check established that the vehicle had just been stolen without the owner being aware, police said.

The man could make a court appearance as early as Monday on a charged of possessing stolen property and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Man Accused of Having Relations With Cows

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (AP) - A 63-year-old man is charged with sexual gratification with an animal for allegedly having sex with calves.

Harold G. Hart, of Neillsville, allegedly told police that he routinely stopped at a Greenwood farm, usually after bar closing or on trips to strip clubs near Marshfield or Neillsville.

A criminal complaint filed in Clark County Circuit Court said the farm's owners installed a motion detector on Jan. 22 after regularly seeing footprints and vehicle tracks on their land. Around 4 a.m. the next morning, a sensor sounded and Hart was caught leaving the barn, but Hart allegedly said he just used a bathroom in the barn and had never been there before.

Hart told police he had sex with heifers before he went into the service in 1963 and resumed about a year ago at the farm. He admitted to using a rope to tie calves around the neck and estimated he had been to the farm "at least 50 times," according to the complaint.

He told police he never had sex with animals while maintaining a relationship with his a girlfriend or his wife, the complaint said.

Hart also is charged with disorderly conduct and two counts of obstructing an officer. Each charge carries up to nine months in jail.

Hart is scheduled to appear in court March 10.

Elderly Couple Accused of Selling Pot

DANVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - A 78-year-old grandmother faces drug charges and authorities are searching for her 72-year-old boyfriend after police found more than a pound of marijuana stashed in a freezer on the woman's property.

State Police troopers arrested Mollie Williams last week after responding to a domestic dispute between her granddaughter and the granddaughter's husband, who were arguing over drugs. Police learned that the man allegedly had bought marijuana from Williams, State Police Cpl. Larry O'Bryan said Monday.

Armed with a search warrant and a drug-sniffing dog, troopers went to Williams' residence. The dog led troopers to a freezer in an outbuilding where the marijuana, worth an estimated $4,000, was hidden under frozen meat and other food, O'Bryan said.

Williams was taken to jail and later released on $15,000 bond. Her live-in boyfriend, Jack White, who was recovering from heart bypass surgery, was allowed to turn himself in but failed to do so. He remained at large Monday.

"They appear to be the typical grandma and grandpa individuals. They seemed pretty sociable. However, they sell marijuana," O'Bryan said.

"You wouldn't generally suspect them in the usual lineup of drug dealers."

The granddaughter was charged with possession of marijuana and released on bond.

Nude Man Covered in Cheese Gets Probation

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A man caught by police last summer on his 23rd birthday running naked and covered in nacho cheese pleaded guilty Monday to burglary and four other charges.

Michael David Monn of Maryville appeared before Blount County Circuit Court Judge D. Kelly Thomas and pleaded guilty to burglary, theft, vandalism, indecent exposure and public intoxication. In a plea bargain with prosecutors, Monn was sentenced to three years in prison but was given supervised probation.

He also was given a judicial deferral, which means if he stays out of trouble for the next three years the charges will be expunged from his record. Thomas warned Monn that if he violates the sentencing requirements, he must serve the sentence in a state penitentiary.

Early on the morning of July 18, 2004, Monn "was highly intoxicated, broke into the John Sevier Pool snack bar area, stole some snacks and did some damage and was caught naked with some stolen snacks," Blount County District Attorney General Mike Gallegos told the courtroom.

A police officer found Monn that morning in the parking lot of the pool facility after Monn had apparently scaled an 8-foot-tall fence and was seen running toward a Jeep with a box of stolen snacks and a container of nacho cheese.

In addition to being naked, Monn had nacho cheese in his hair, on his face and on his shoulders, police said. He also had a strong odor of alcohol and was semi-incoherent.

In his Jeep, Maryville officers found clothing and an open bottle of vodka.

Naked Man Threatens Neighbors With Sword

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (AP) - A man threatened his neighbors with a sword after they complained about him being naked in his front yard, police said. Curtis D. Rarick, 44, was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.

Rarick had been naked in his yard and became angry when neighbors asked him to put clothes on Sunday afternoon, police said.

He went inside and came back out with a 2 1/2-feet long sword and began threatening the neighbors, court records show.

He was released from jail Monday after posting $2,000 bond

If convicted, Rarick could face up to two years in jail and a $5,000 fine.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7.
