Enlarge the picture and you can see the outer edge of the eye is on land.

Ingrid was the equivilant of what u guys would call a category 3 hurricane.

she was a category 4 on the Australian scale.

she is one of the stronger systems to hit the Australian east coast in recent decades.

she is definately the strongest to hit since Aivu in April 1989.

Aivu hit with around 125 mph sustained winds.

There's a different scale for Australia?? Didn't know that? Is there a Cat 6 that's equivalent to our Category 5???

There is no Category 6, is using the same numbers but with winds variations.

Also note that the Aussie scale is based on the strongest gust, in km/hr, rather than sustained winds, in mph, like the Saffir-Simpson Scale.

Cant imagine what it must be like to live on the Pacific rim and watch Cat 4 and 5 monsters barreling towards you all year long!

u should see the West Australian coast between 1996 and 2004 7 storms that would be the equivilant of catgeory 4 hurricanes made landfall.
