Judge stops ban on Harry Potter books

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Thu Apr 24, 2003 12:16 pm

I know very many of ya aren't Harry Potter fans but here's the story:

From http://www.rupertgrint.net:

Imagine not being able to get your hands on a Harry Potter book?
That's what happened to kids in part of Arkansas in the United States, until a judge said it just wasn't fair.
A school board had banned kids from taking any of the books out from libraries without their parents' permission.
It was because some parents in Cedarville school district had complained about them.

'Encourage witchcraft'

They said the books encourage witchcraft, are evil and tell kids to disobey orders.

But there were also many people really angry about the decision, because they think it harms kids' freedom to choose what they read.

The court agreed with them, and told the school board to make sure kids can now borrow all four books and read as much Potter as they like!

thanks newsround!

To that, I can only say, "Alohomora!" (HP spell for unlocking doors..and by inference, minds, too.)

And, for those who disagree, I say "Petrificus totalis! (HP spell for freezing a person into a statue-like state).

Good. I don't really think kids should be sheltered from letting their imaginations run free. Thats what books are for.
