What religion do you practice?
Just curious, what's your choice of religion? Mine, Southern Baptist....born and raised SB, actually, 99.9% of the Southern Baptist Churches I've attended over the past 30 years have been more Carasmatic, Pentacostal........I'm not Assembly of God but "ALMOST!"

Catholic here.
As far as attending Mass every Sunday....well, we've fallen by the wayside in the past year. From Jim's point of view, he's disgusted with the way our Cincinnati Diocese has handled hundreds of sexual abuse cases in this area. Our own Archbishop was found guilty of moving an offensive priest around, parish to parish, years ago. After denying he knew of any activity. His sig was found on a document of a 'delicate matter'.
Sometimes quite honestly I wonder if we're in the right religion anyway. What I'm mostly upset by these cases is the church keeps calling it a scandal. Well, yeah it is but how about treating these predator priests for what they are - sexual predators and hold them accountable? Also a sincere apology to the victims would really go far with me. Because I'm sure I went to school with a few of them (it was all going on back then). We've just not had a sincere, deeply apologetic response from the Diocese here. Or if there was one, it should have been in the very beginning. What those poor children endurred...
Oops, sorry to derail this topic. Right now I'm still trying to be the good person I strive to be. Someday soon I'll either go back to church on a weekly basis or seriously think about another faith.

Catholic here too. Various aspects of it are annoying/can be confusing to me. I go to church every week, sometimes 'somewhat' reluctantly.
If you aren't serious about it you shouldn't be a TRUE practicing Catholic... as many are.

Southern Baptist...but was raised in the Church of God (Anderson, IN reformation). My pastor is Wil Graham...son of Franklin Graham and grandson of Billy.

Protestant Catholic (raised Catholic, called to the altar during a visit with Starkville [Mississippi] UMC youth group during high school, now I attend and visit any Christian services or Mass with friends of various denominations)
Mary -- I know what you mean. The bishop who presided over my confirmation ceremony was accused of molestation a few years ago. He was the first bishop of the Lexington diocese. I remember growing up when Lexington was originally part of the diocese of Covington. I *think* he has since died, but I'm not sure. I only check the Lexington news every once in a while.

MissMary, it was here in the Diocese of Lafayette years ago when, I think, the first court case came about over sexual abuse by a priest. Local attorney J. Minos Simon took on the church. ABC news was here covering it. Mr. Simon and his client won or maybe settled the case...too long ago to remember. Now we have all these people remembering from 30 + years ago. When ABC was here, they came to our print shop and I remember having to copy some of the files for them and was asked not to look at the papers. Honest as I was, I didn't. Boy but I sure was curious!

Catholic now. I was raised Southern Baptist and attended church every Wednesday night and Sunday morning and Sunday night.
I converted to Catholisim when my daughter took her First Communion. I had watched what she learned and even though I took her to Sunday School and church with me, she still went to CCD and mass with her Dad. It was hard to divide the family to go to church cause he sure wasn't going to convert.
So I converted and had my "first communion" with the Catholic Church at the same time she did after going thru classes myself. Now we go as a family and my children have grown up serving in the church. Superbowl Sunday night, my son went to mass and because there were only about 20 people there he had to serve as altar boy, even thou he is 18, he had to take up the collection, he had to bring down the gifts and then he had to serve as echurastic minister and give out the wine, for all you Catholics, you know what I am talking about. I told him he should have told Father Mike to let him read the Homily and he would have done it all!
Since my daughter has been at Ole Miss she has gotten four Catholic students going to mass with her. They have all told her they are glad she is there and got them back into the church where they belong.
Miss Mary, I am so sorry you are having such a time dealing with all that happened in your area. What the church did was certainly not right and they are taking steps in the Biloxi Diocese to make sure this never happens again. We have so many rules on any interaction between children and priests now it is horrible. The priest can't go to our mission in Mexico with the children, it's not allowed. They can't travel with the CYO anywhere they go. He can go in a separate vehicle, but not with them. This is so sad. Our new Bishop is also an attorney so all kinds of papers have to be notarized before the CYO does anything or goes anywhere. A little overboard in my opinion.

PS I will say my Mom is still not real happy with me after 14 years, but just says as long as I go to church she is ok....hahahaha...
