I was born and raised Catholic. My mom is going to call me tomorrow and remind me to go to Church on Friday between 12:00 and 3:00.

Baptised into Methodist church in 1999. Parents were agnostics and we never went to church or had much discussion of religion. When I was a child, I remember the kids across the street throwing rocks at us and calling us athiests. The catholic family down the street wouldn't allow their children to play with us. My second grade teacher was big on leading the class in prayer 3 times a day and she would single me out to be sent out of the room at these times. So - I had a really bad taste for religion for a long long time.

Now I'm having a real problem with the way political agendas have interfered in the worship of God, particularly in the protestant denominations. The Methodist church is crumbling and it wouldn't surprise me to see a split in the next few years. Maybe it's for the best.

Born and raised Catholic but fell away during the college years. Became a big time party head and one night while tripping crossed paths with a high school friend who was a member of a independent, new testament, christian fellowship, who stayed with me for the night and helped me see the light. I joined that church, was rebaptized, spirit filled, and was growing. The group disintegrated due to problems between the leadership and I drifted again for years, slipping into bad habits, but maintaining respectability and pouring myself into work and hobbies. Met my wife to be at work, also a former catholic. We are not presently going to church but do talk about faith with our kids. I know it's a weak substitute for being plugged in somewhere. I guess the challenge for us is to re-kindle things spiritual in our lives.

Catholic here. I rarely go to church though, for reasons stated in earlier posts and for other reasons as well.

Raised as a Methodist, moved to Presbyterian in my 20's, joined my husband's Southern Baptist Church after I married, ran for my life after getting divorced and joined United Church of Christ.

Now, I'm leaning towards declaring as a deist.

I was raised Southern Baptist and have never been a part of another faith. I have visited others occasionally with friends though. We are 100% Bible based. Nothing added and nothing taken away. I can't get any truer to God's Word than that. :)

My church family is wonderful as well.

For much of my childhood I was raised a JW. That turned me off of religion for many, many, many years. The past year or so I've been trying to find my way back to some kind spirituality and religion. Still trying to figure that all out. Not quite sure what I believe, only what I don't believe.

There was one dude that tried to convince me to join JW since he saw my "Donate Blood" shirt. Fat chance.

My only suggestion is to go to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the one me and my family goes to), the only religion I know of that can help you get your life back together physically, mentally, and spiritually.

All due respect...what would a "Donate Blood" shirt have to do with JW?

I dated a JW once, although since they're not really supposed to date outside their faith, it didn't work out. I wasn't aware at first that she was JW anyway, but since I was working in the ER at the time, I asked her to explain the blood thing when she told me she was.

The way she explained it to me is that they don't have a problem with donors. Either the guy who tried to convince you to join was unclear about the JW teachings in regards to that, or he was trying to find something to debate about. Of course, they don't donate. But that's not the issue. The issue is in regards to RECEIVING the blood. Tazzy might be able to explain it better. But we always respected that in the ER -- it's one of those "patient wishes" situations and diversity issues.

The thing was he tried to use the "Mormons can't donate blood because it's illegal" bit and tried to use every bit of reverse psychology to convince me to join. NOT WORKING! :D

Okay, now I'm really lost. Why was he trying to tell you about the Mormon faith? And how could he claim donating blood is against the law? What law? Mormon law or JW law? Can Mormons not donate blood? Is that where I'm lost?

As for JW's, I can't explain it completely because it's not my faith and not what I believe or understand fully. However, their opposition to RECEIVING blood is mainly because the Bible teaches against consuming blood. A person who receive blood may be shunned from the JW community.
