Do you have a nickname?

#1 Postby JetMaxx » Fri Apr 25, 2003 12:57 am

I give credit to this thread to Patricia (ticka1) when she mentioned how she got the name ticka (how her brother and sister pronounced Patricia when they were children).

My given name is Perry...but to my nephew Nick I'm "Big Guy", and to my aunt Violet and uncle Gene I'm "Purrylee" (that's the way it sounds when they says it..he he!). Dad also has a habit of calling me "Pearly"

Other nicknames (or pet names) in my family are "runt" (what everyone's called aunt Millie since she was a toddler). I get some strange looks in Wal-Mart when I say something like "are you ready to check out runt" Maddie (niece) is "Mad"...sister Rebecca has always called "Becka" by everyone, and "Sissy" by me (I rarely ever call her by anything else). My nephew Nick is "Nickster", and everyone calls my grandmother Lizzie "Granny", even her sisters and her son.

Somehow my baby sister Caroline Elizabeth (Beth) ended up as "Carly" to her friends in high school.

What is your nickname?

God Bless,
Perry aka Big Guy aka Purrylee aka Pearly (as in pearly gates

Too many of them, and none fit to share here.

Except "Sir", perhaps.

Klaus is my name in German class. That's the closest thing I have to a nickname.

LOL @ "Sir Bottomless pit"

I too have a host of nicknames. I also tend to give people new ones, So please forgive me if I shorten or change your name when I am refering to you. I give every thing nicknames.

As my name is Bronwyn, most of my friends called me Bron or Bronni. My mom sometimes calles me Bronst. My Dad is bad with naming things as well, and gave me so many as a kid. He usually calls me Bronna or Broon. I was also his Brontosaurus and Tokkie beatle (It is a kind of bug that makes a non stop knocking sound) And my brother used to call me moogus (I used to try sing that song "talk about pop music" and it came out pop moogus)

My poor son has been labled "smellix or smelly ally" his name is Alex. For some unknown reason my husband gets called "Rick" by his family, his name is Ryan. He has a number of names for me... Those I shall keep to myself ;)

My parents have strange nicknames as well. My Dad's name is also Alexander, but his brothers shortend it to Zandy. All the grandkids call him "Pox" (another failed attempt at saying a word, which should have been "pop's" ) My Mom to the Grandkids is "Munnyduck" (Her surname is Munn and my Dad calls her duck)
Now you have the complete history of my very odd family tree of nicknames :)

I forgot a couple last night from my school days...

A taxi driver/ family friend nicknamed me "frog" when I was seven because I once smuggled a small toad home from school in his cab. Mr Brown called me frog from 2nd grade until he passing about ten years ago.

I was also called "weatherman" by many friends in middle/ high school, even a couple of my teachers ("hey weatherman, is it gonna rain today"?

Lets see...I've been called Shan before (would rather not prefer it). My dad calls me rat (I don't know the reasoning behind it). My mom calls me poj...(shortened version of pojo).

As for my brother...He's has LOADS of nicknames...Dork, Brat, Dumb@$$, Dip$#!*, Chadderbox (His name is chad...and he DOESN'T shut up!), you name it, he's been called it...and the thing is...HE RESPONDS!

Because there are 2 Linda's, 2 Richards, and 2 Erics in the family (yes, we are original...the duplicates married into the family)...we have to be specific when we want one of them! (My mom, (one of my) aunts; my step-dad, (one of my) uncles; (one of my) cousins, and my step-brother in law.

Some friends in high school called me "Ricky" back in the early 1980s. :)
There was a popular song then called "Ricky Don't Lose That Number". 8)
