Well this is probably the craziest night of the year so far weather wise and I have missed out on about everything today and tonight... I can only read and be jealous of all your exciting weather... Here the winds are calm the temp is steady in the low 40's and it has been mostly cloudy for the longest time now. Send some weather up this way

Oh yeah and Anthony the more I read your posts the more I think you have issues... An issue where you don't know what you want and you don't know what you see. This is clearly one of the most impressive pattern changes of many of our times and you come out saying you are not pleased with it.... I don't get it... LOOK AT THE MOUNTAINS... Oh yeah, and we are getting serious weather variation with snow/sleet/hail in the lowlands... and the date...MARCH 29th... WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT... Who cares if there is no wind... Sure if it were in the mid 50's and all of this other exciting weather like the snow/hail/sleet/lightning wasn't happening we'd be dissapointed with not too much wind... Wind doesn't mean we aren't getting blasted. I am beyond any describing word with the weather in this past week... I just saw a picture from today up at mount baker and it showed a person standing in snow nearly WASTE DEEP... And no this weekend is going to be fine for the mountains and they are going to get hammered with more snow. No much warmer with another cold front chomping down on us this weekend.

Snoqualmie Pass is now up to 23 inches for the day and has 36 inches on the ground.
The usually reliable Scott Sistek from KOMO indicated this evening that they had only 4-8 inches up there. He must not have noticed the endless convergence zone pointed directly at Snoqualmie Pass!!
Indeed... I have "ground verification" from the local news stations and pictures from this evening of some very deep snow up there.

I saw the snow too. Truly amazing for this late in the season...not only the amount, but how soft and powdery it is. As far as I can tell, we have at least three more cold troughs to go before this is all over. Undoubtedly, one of the greatest late season pattern shifts ever!
We are now truly in a 1950s, or early 1970s type regime. I hope we can hold onto this. If so, we will be having some real fun in the coming seasons!
It is going to fun to compare this year's late season snowfall to years like 1950, 1955, 1970, and 1971. From what I can tell from the Stampede Pass records the greatest Mar 22 - Mar 31 totals are in the 40 - 45 inch range, and the greatest April 1 - 15 totals are from 40 - 50 inches. We are going to be up there with the best of them! The bad news, for warm weather fans, is that these kind of years are usually very cool for Apr - Jun. The prospects for summer are not quite so clear.

Speaking of warmer weather.....a big warm up...or should I say a gradual warm up, appears to take place as soon as the 11th of next month as shown by the GFS. If this holds ture...we could see highs in the upper 60`s to near 70 as a strong ridge of high pressure builds up just a few hundered miles off the upper Western U.S coast line and lower Southern Canadain coast.

That is possible Andy, BUT beware of such a pattern in a spring like this! Very often cold and unsettled springs will have a freakish warm period and then the bottom falls out again. A couple of great examples are 1955 and 1984. In Arpril 1984 we had highs in the 80s on the 14th...by the end of the month we had snow in a convergence zone. In 1955 it got to 100 in the city of Seattle in June. Just a few days later the record lows which were a hallmark of that year returned.
If it does get really warm in a couple of weeks, I will be eager to see how we come out of it!

Hey Brennan,
I'll tell you what I want since you seem to be the expert...I want SUNNY and WARM weather...temperatures in the 70s. It's almost April...this weather is officially silly for this time of year. It would have been great in January or February, but April? What's up?
The sunny weather seems to put people in better moods. And yesterday's storm had very little impact on the greater Seattle area...something called the RAIN SHADOW. We saw very little rain and very little wind. NO HAIL, SLEET...and temperatures stayed in the mid, upper 40s all day.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the mountains are finally getting their snow...but couldn't it have come during the WINTER season. I just pray May thru August is sunny and warm.

Viewing the latest 6z and 12z GFS....our weather pattern will continue to be in a nearly zonal flow that will keep us cool, showery and very unsetteled through next weekend with maybe small break on the 5th. Troughs of low pressure look to enter our area about every day to every other day. The following week looks about the same, but with a ridge of high pressure tring to build back in by the around the 15th. Though, that ridge may be completely thrown out or continuing with that trend.

Anthony that just would have been too plain for this year... This type of weather in January and February would be typical... This is the bonus that you get with weather here and there every once in a while... You get something called UNUSUAL WEATHER... That is what is happening lately and it is exciting... I don't think any of us here really care about what weather does to the moods of anyone besides ourselves. And to tell you the truth, since you seem to always want warm and sunny weather why don't you move to Southern California or Arizona? And the storm that hit yesturday... So what, it didn't impact seattle that much, does that make it any less of a storm because it didn't effect the place with the most population and most buildings? If your definition of a storm is something that effects a place with large population and lots of pavement, that yesturday's storm sucked. I did see a picture of the space needle getting struck by lightning, I think you could call that effecting seattle... Truthfully, I don't see why you are on this forum if all you are going to tell anyone is that the BIG STORMS are weak and that you want sunny weather in the 70's... This is a WINTER CHAT so we talk about the storms... Why don't you make a thread that says NW SUMMER WEATHER LOVERS...

And Anthony, you said this weather is rediculous for almost being april and that it should have happened back in January and February.... If I could remember correctly it was you that was LOVING the summer weather back in February... To me, that dry spell in February was SILLY... Why couldn't that have happened in the middle of spring or summer? BECAUSE IT'S WEATHER... ITS NOT SILLY. We are sort of in a reverse year type of thing. We get our SO CALLED SPRING LIKE weather in winter, and our winter weather in spring... You got your sun in february and the first half of march, and now it has to even itself out... LIVE WITH IT..

Brennan,
There's no point arguing with you...it's not worth it. People have many opinions...we live in the United States. If you want cold/wet weather in April and May, that's cool with me. You also know that I love wild weather...dude, I was pushing for snow/cold all Winter long...until the end of February. But reality hit...THIS WINTER SUCKED. Plain and simple...you can't deny it. But to have afternoon high temperatures in the 40s and heavy rain in April just isn't as appealing if it were to happen in January of February. WINTER'S OVER. Let's move on to Spring and Summer...outdoor activity, warm weather and sun.

Hey Anthony Tell you what... You are right, there is no point in arguing... BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING TO ARGU ABOUT... Clearly you should tell mother nature that you want summer weather here because it doesn't appear she knows what you want. And Actually, you weren't pulling for snow in the end of February... It was about Mid February if not earlier that you completely gave up hope on snow and cold weather.
And Anthony, this winter didn't completely suck, In fact, what we are in now I still call winter. This winter may have sucked snow and BIG ARCTIC blast wise but I think it is setting us up perfectly for the winters to come. We were so close to getting so cold and snowy this year that it made it seem like this winter sucked even more.. But right now I am not looking back and saying the winter sucked... I just don't feel it was that bad... Now the 2002-2003 winter sucked. Now back to this year, When the mountains are getting 40+ inches of snow in less than a week and we are getting hail/snow/lightning and high temps in the 40's, that doesn't sound much like spring. We are making up ground for all of the missed weather in february... So pretend it's february right now... I can remember saying in February that ALL OF THE PEOPLE LOVING THE SO CALLED SPRING LIKE WEATHER BACK THEN WOULD BE WISHING IT WERE IN THE SPRING INSTEAD OF THEN... And look what happens, I was right... You are wishing the nice and sunny weather would have waited until now... if you really loved crazy weather you would be just as excited as me, snowwizz, TT, and the rest of the gang around here. You are the only one now pushing for warm and summer weather. Well NEWS FLASH BIG SLIM... ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN... At least not for a long time so get over it.

Well this is what I'd say to that if it were early february...
Afternoon high temperatures in the 60's and completely sunny weather in February just isn't as appealing if it were to happen in May and June. IT'S STILL WINTER. Lets get on to the cold and snowy weather. Save the spring and summer weather for spring and summer.
Well to me it sounds like you are in the same position that me and snow wizz were back in February... We wanted snow and cold while you were content with warm and sunny daytime highs.. Now we are getting out cold and stormy weather and you are still begging for warm weather. It's like a mind game, if it were February you say you would be happy with this weather, well if a calender and the sun's angle affects your want for certain types of weather than keep hoping for sun, because clearly, its april and the stormy cold weather is rediculous... According to you.
I AM GOING CAMPING IN THE SNOW, POWDERY, COLD MOUNTAINS THIS WEEKEND... ISN'T THE BEAUTIFUL SNOW AWESOME AND REFRESHING? I LOVE IT... This questions does not apply to summer wanters in march, clearly this weather sucks for this time of year.
