Let's see how soon the Vatican issues the statement as they always are somewhat slow releasing information although in the past 24 hours they haved released plenty of information about the popes condition.

As each hour passes by and the vatican issues no dire statements, my hope grows that we will soon see Pope John Paul II at his window again (and more)

He is a fighter and he appears to be pulling through once again :D

I hope you all bear with me. I'm just trying to be positive here.

I like you - you seem to have an optimistic outlook. I hope he pulls through, too.

Still waiting for the statement...
Interesting that CNN just said they had no information saying a statement was coming. Hmm...

You know what I think they mean by that? The statement of his death should it come. I think they're basically just trying to say they are waiitng for word of anything.

There are around 75,000 people in St. Peter's square. Amazing. The Pope is well loved.

Right, Eric. Pope John Paul transcended all sorts of boundaries.

He was given his Last Rites when he was shot in 1981 but he survived. This is the second time he has been given his Last Rites. He is definitely a strong willed person and even when was advised not to do the Easter prayer and Blessings he tried with great passion to do this! God Bless you Holy Father!!

Three times, actually. He also received the anointing of the sick before his surgery two months ago.

Grave update from the Vatican: :(

Cardinal Javier Lozano Barragan, the Vatican's health minister, tells Mexico's Televisa dal Vaticano that the pope "is about to die."

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope John Paul II was near death saturday morning in Rome, his breathing shallow and his heart and kidneys failing, the Vatican said. Millions of faithful around the world knelt, crawled on their knees, bowed their heads and lit candles to pray for the 84-year-old pontiff.

"This evening or this night, Christ opens the door to the pope," Angelo Comastri, the pope's vicar general for Vatican City, told a crowd at St. Peter's Square, where tens of thousands prayed into the chilly night. Many tearfully gazed at John Paul's third-floor window, wrapping themselves in blankets.

God bless him.

Go to this link. It is a very detailed explanation of the upcoming media coverage. If you thought 9/11 and Terry Schiavo were big, wait until you read this.

I'd like to be optimistic and say he'll pull through, but I just don't see it happening. Unlike the past few times, he's actually in grave condition this time. The Vatican "expects" him to die.

Jason: Yeah I've been reading TVNewser since his startup as CableNewser over a year ago. VERY extensive coverage. I've been recording the news much of the day. Can see I will be going through a lot of DVD's over the next few weeks.
