The lights are still on, as of this writing...

I wouldn't expect anything until daybreak in Rome which will be around Midnight EST.

That is what my sister just said. Italy is seven hours ahead of me (Central Time Zone).

When the Lord is ready to call him home, He will.

Jason: Yeah I've been reading TVNewser since his startup as CableNewser over a year ago. VERY extensive coverage. I've been recording the news much of the day. Can see I will be going through a lot of DVD's over the next few weeks.

Brent, wow :D You're recording this too? I've been using both VCRs in our house all day to record CNN and MSNBC plus some Canadian channels. It's so cool to know I'm not the only one that does that.

Yeah, TVNewser is great. I check it out as often as I can.

This is why the internet is so great. People with similar interests can meet and talk:)

Anyway, let's hope that none of this coverage is necessary.

The Papal bedroom is darkened, but the other apartment windows are still lit as of this writing.

After what happened earlier today, I think I'll bypass Fox News and give MSNBC my attention tonight.

:)

I've been watching MSNBC most of the day... they've got great dramatic music they use during the intro. Initially when FNC and to a lesser extent CNN reported the Pope's death this afternoon, I thought MSNBC was doing the usual and was BEHIND on a story again(I prefer them for news most of the time so trust me I know), but then when I found out it wasn't true it made them look so good.

As far as I can tell... all three will be live 24/7 this weekend.

Yeah... I record all of the major news events. I'm using DVD's now, but I have tapes in my room from September 11th, the opening of the War on Terror and the War in Iraq, as well as some subsquent coverage here and there, the Presidential debates/conventions, election night, (DVD's start), the Inauguration and a considerable amount on Terri Schiavo. I'll be recording much of the night while I'm asleep as well.

I also record almost all of the TV shows I watch.

I thought I was the only one who did that until I found some tape trading websites... LOL

Vatican Press Office closed until 9am Rome time... 2am EST. Could be a lid while they prepare something?, unclear, all speculation.

Amen to your comments David. I am not Catholic, but clearly this man has set an example in humility, devotion, and commitment to the end that makes him among the most respected religious leaders in my lifetime.

A peaceful passing should be his reward.

Here is the very latest Statement from the Vatican issued at 4:30 AM EST

VATICAN CITY (CNN) -- Pope John Paul II's condition remains unchanged and "very grave," and he is showing the first signs of losing consciousness, the Vatican said Saturday.

The 84-year-old pope's health has rapidly deteriorated, with his heart and kidneys failing after he suffered a urinary tract infection.

Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said Saturday the pope is technically not in a coma and opens his eyes when spoken to.

"As of dawn this morning, the start of a compromised state of consciousness was observed," he said.

"Mass was celebrated at 7:30 this morning in the presence of the pope," the spokesman said, adding that the pope did not take part.

He said aides had told the pope that thousands of young people were in St. Peter's Square on Friday evening.

"In fact, he seemed to be referring to them when, in his words, and repeated several times, he seemed to have said the following sentence: 'I have looked for you. Now you have come to me. And I thank you,"' the spokesman said.

He will die in peace and tranquility and will be in heaven as soon he passes away.

FYI=The next statement from the Vatican will be 5 or 6 hours after they issued this one which was at 4:30 AM EST or 11:30 AM Rome time

I'm confused as to why Fox has the week-day Fox and Friends crew on. I was confused - thought maybe I was supposed to be a work.

Maybe just a special edition of it due to the Pope's situation.

Everyone has the weekday crews on. Today Show had Katie and Matt(Katie was on vacation in Asia and returned, Matt is in Vatican), as well as the weekend crew.

CNN's got the usual morning show and MSNBC has the usual morning crew. They are going 24/7 with this as long as he's on near death.
