Do you wishcast?

So who here wishcasts hurricanes to their areas? I have to admit I was very guilty of it last season, particularly with Ivan. I don't really know the reason, its kind of an excitment/adreneline thing. The days leading up to the strike are just so tense I love it for some reason. I also admit to liking mass panic and chaos. Also, during the hurricane itself it is very exciting. The aftermath is just awful though.

I think that -removed- is not a bad word if we don't go to the extremes. Everything to the extremes is bad, religion, politics etc. So you can have some degree of wonderful forecaster inside you without being a bad caracteristic. Be honest! All weather enthusiast or even the most Proffesional forecasters or Meterologists would like to experience weather someway, somehow, sometime. Even if you store that desire to yourself and don't tell it to anybody, inside yourself, you now you have the desire to see weather, that make you a wonderful forecaster without conviction. And this is not bad at all. The thing that make wiscasting bad is the degree of -removed-. If you go for the extreme, let's said... to desire that a Cat 5 hit you or to get like crazy when you see every blob of convection developing out there, that's extreme! To say that a tropical wave is going to develop even if the conditions appear unfavorable for development to the point of fighting others members who say that this wave is not going to develop, that's also extreme.

Well, I voted the second option, but I have a caveat.

I would NEVER wish a hurricane on anyone, because no matter what category, hurricanes will change people's lives for some time. Remember, even a tropical depression can cause major damage. Just flash back to 1999, when a disorganized depression only lasted a couple of days along the coast of Mexico; however, it caused major flooding, killing over 400 people.

Now for my caveat. Someday, I may wish to, somewhere away from home, experience a category 1 hurricane just for the experience. Where I'm from, 25 mph is considered a very windy day; I can only imagine what even a category 1 hurricane might be like. As frightening as the experience may be, I think it would be worth it to, just once, experience a category 1 hurricane.

In short, I don't "wish" for hurricanes; however, it might be neat to experience a minimal one someday.

After going thru Isabel in 2003..a mere Cat 1, and after seeing the destruction in Florida last year from the Fearsome Foursome my -removed- days are over. Im a lot more objective now than I was before; hopefully this will improve the accuracy of my forecasts. Yes I confess; Im a former wish caster

I think its easier for people who don't live in a hrricane prone area to wish for one to hit the US

I hope the Bermuda high doesn't strenghthen because last year was enough for Florida. You can take that Bermuda high and put it in Alaska. I used to be somewhat of a wishcaster, but after last year no more.

Move somewhere else, preferably far away. You live too close to me and your karma bothers me. I used to think like you, but then I grew up, and now I just wish people like you would go away.

I have wishcasted alot. The last time I saw a hurricane was back in 1983 and I was a child. My house was not damaged so it was kinda fun. Since then I'm a Hurricane repelent, plenty of Hurricanes & Typhoons have been headed for my location only to turn away in the last hours.

Well if that is the case then just stay right where you are and I'll be safe too!!!

As far as -removed- is concerned, I understand it, but I abhor it. I pride myself on my forecasting skills, as limited as they are and have never "wishcasted" a storm to my area. If I have said one was coming my way, I truly felt from all the information available to me that that was the case. I have been accused of it when it was not the case. My experiences, from Camille on down to the tiniest blow of a tropical depression have been enough that I would never "wishcast".

That being said, I would still like to experience a strong Hurricane, not even going to go for category here, that wasn't threatening others life and property, maybe like Bret when he went into S Texas in an almost unpopulated area.

One important thing to remember is for 2004, alot of talk about -removed- came true as most of the labeled wishcasts were for Florida.

That being said, alot of people including myself dont mind a cat 1 or 2 beacuse it is one of the most exciting survivable weather events. But when the power goes out for a week, it will temper your feelings.

I do opposite-wishcasting. I tend to wish storms to avoid my area, as last year was fun enough for me. Hurricanes are fascinating, but they're more fascinating when they're fishy.

Agreed! Both as a homeowner and a surfer. Last year was one of the worst for surfing in NE Florida! 1992 was the worst IMHO. 1994 I think it was with Felix Liuz and a 3rd I cant remember was the best, all deep fishes cat 3 ob. Now thats I season I can root for!

When I first moved to Myrtle Beach as a young 20 something, I really wanted to experience a hurricane just to see what it was like. Now, being much older, wiser and having experienced 6 of them, I soon realized The destruction and chaos they cause doesn't make the experience worth it. After having a pine tree flung through our roof during hurricane Bonnie, I do a lot of -removed-... -removed- for them to go elsewhere or better yet stay out in the ocean. Due to my previous job with the local P.D., we were never allowed to evacuate, so no matter how bad it got, we had to stay. It is definitely an adrenaline rush watching roofs blow off and trees blowing down and all the other destruction you witness, but certainly not something I wish for anymore.

The main reason I wishcast is because hurricanes fulfull my interest in meteorology mainly. Last year I got so much more into the science because of the hurricanes. When you experience it up close and personal its just so fascinating and I cant seem to get enough of it. I would be one of those people who would ride out a Cat 5 or chase one. Its a big passion of mine.

I don't wishcast because no matter what you wish for its not going to happen.Wishing for a hurricane to either hit you or miss is not going to make one hair of a difference in the ultimate track of it so the whole concept of "-removed-" is stupid as I see it.

I agree, it doesnt do anything, the whole point of the poll was to ask people whether they would like a hurricane to hit their area or not.

Being that I live in a hurricane prone area & I have always had a interest in hurricanes, when there is one out there I am always trying to figure out if & how it could affect me.I know that there is nothing I can do to affect the track of the storm one way or the other but YES I enjoy feeling the effects of storms!

I don't like to see people get hurt or lose everything but thats one of the risks we take when we live on planet Earth.
