Possible subtropical low forms over eastern Atlantic
This area of low pressure appears to have formed a Cdo or area of convection near its center. I think because of the cool seasurface temperatures that it is getting subtropical through the differences in Atmospheric temperature. Subtropical systems take there energy from both sea in upper Atmosphere. So what do you think. Interesting none the less....Centered 31.5 north/31 west...

I see nothing wrong with naming subtropical storms. Many times, they do transform into legit tropical storms.
Plus, since naming subtrop systems, many have gone on to become tropical.
2002: Subtropical storm Gustav became Category 2 Hurricane Gustav.
2002: Subtropical storm Kyle became Category 1 marathon runner Hurricane Kyle.
2003: Subtropical storm Ana became Tropical Storm Ana.
On some occasions, even extratropical systems can convert into tropical storms. However, I'm not saying we should name extratropical systems. Although when a hurricane or tropical storm becomes extratropical, it should keep its name until it dissipates or gets absorbed by another system.

Nhc did had Matthew to worry about over Louisiana before naming Nicole. I don't mind naming Subtropical Storms. It is confusing having Subtropical Storm 1 becoming Tropical Storm X. Subs can be destructive over the sea, and should be warned the same way, IMO.
However, I think the criteria should be specified soon. There is too much gray area. The one on Tuesday may have been Subtropical to some, but a little too far, considering the time of year. A list should be made, and a system has to have a percentage of them to be called Subtropical, rather than extratropical.

A say that a Subtropical storm should be a system that is developing warm convection over its center/Core. That equals heat over the center=more tropical. The other factor should be 72 to 73 degree water temperatures under the system.
So what we have hear is a low level cirulation. Which is broader then a tropical cyclone. With the wind field the same. With a developing area of convection over the center. By this most of this was made for the system on Tueday.
Also Niccole made all these. I thought Nicole was more tropical then Matthew for a time. In far more tropical then Grace.
I personally think that anything that forms over 80 or above water has to be some what tropical for its air mass it forms in.
