Amazing! It is now clear, calm, and 41 in Covington. With a weak offshore gradient later tonight it could actually frost!
The trough next week continues to look UNSEASONABLY cold! I would not be at all surprised to see some record lows before this is all over. The prospects appear to be good for afternoon thundershowers for a good part of next week. This is going to be fun.

Hey all! Just got home from school. Wow..! I sure had a heavy rain band move through my area today! It was just pouring, and I mean it was REALLY coming down. The rain squall that came through put down .51" or rain! And guess what...I called the Seattle NWS to report it just a few minutes ago.
This is my report I posted in another weather group.

Location of where it occured: Molbak`s Nursey in Woodinville
The rain that came down this aftenoon was just an absolute down pour with slanting rain. Torrintal down pour! By watching the rain, and seeing just how hard it was coming down....my estimate is that it was coming down at least .50" to more like 1.00" an hour during the 15min time period of when the rain squall came through. Not really much wind to speak of. There was also slight ponding of water in the lower parking lot in front of Molbaks Nursey, but the drains were able to handel the water despite the heavy rain. Very soaking rain to the least!

Viewing tonights GFS, tomorrow should be mostly dry...though a few showers can`t totaly be ruled out as a 1000MB low heads down into Oregon and Northen Cal. With the system moving into Oregon, that means the main action will be carreid with it, but still sending clouds our way. So majorty of the Seattle area probably ending up with cloudy skies and possibly some peaks of sun. Saturday may be somewhat of a better day, though it will be a little cool. Sunday through Wednesday of next week looks like a rather cool and very unsetteled weather patteren sets up to give us more interesting weather similar to what we`ve been having lately.
And finally...come around wednesday the 13th, a very cool trough...at the surface and through upper layers, has 850MB temps of around -6C with heights near 1350. 500MB vorticity heights are near 534DM with 700MB heights of 2910M. Both ETA and MRF also showing a cool trough sometime around the 13th - 15th. So if models are correct, we should see some pretty exciting weather....in the form of thunder showers, ice pellet showers, and maybe even some breezy winds.

Latest GFS, AVN, and MRF, along with the UKMET model...are all developing a very cool for this coming Tuesday/Wednesday time frame. In fact, it`s so cool that the local GFS http://www.iges.org/pix/seagfs.png
is showing heights of around 525DM. 850MB temps are near -6C with heights of near 1470M. Seattle MOS showing high temps in the lower 50`s for that time frame with 24hr POP of 78%. So should be an interesting couple of days! With a trough this cool in nature, were likely too see thunder showers, very low snow levels of around 1500ft and our good Ol` friend the PSCZ. Bring on the excting weather!

An awesome afternoon, though a little too cold for my taste...currently mostly sunny conditions with a temperature of 51F.
As for the extended, Sunday thru Wednesday look interesting with an upper level trough located over the PNW. Temperatures will be below normal...afternoon highs around 50F, overnight lows in the upper 30s...with plenty of showers and good orographic lift for the mountains. There's not a big, organized system coming through, but plenty of instability which should create some active weather. Remember, April is the prime month for thunderstorms in Western Washington.
Tomorrow I'm off to Stevens Pass to do a little snowboarding before I take a few college visits over Spring Break. I'll be gone Sunday thru Tuesday, visiting Willamette and Gonzaga Universities. Looking at latest pass cams, they need some more snow at the passes...things are quickly melting.

Flew back into a beautifully sunny and GREEN Seattle this afternoon.
The mountains looked awesome from above with lots of snow. The pilot was even excited about how different it looked now compared to early March when the mountains were bare.
It continues to look active next week. But then gradually calmer as the jet stream continues to move north and generally weaken as spring strengthens.
Although this pattern is much more fun than what we had during the late winter... its not that different from a normal April.
Snow_Wizzard... I keep reading your posts and I am not seeing anything that makes this April dramatically stand out. Its spring. Convergence zones are more active but there is more sun in between. Light frost is absolutely NORMAL for a post-frontal clear night in April. It would happen in California at times even in April. Today was just gorgeous and tomorrow will be as well. On Wednesday we were pushing 70 degrees.
This past week was much nicer than I thought it would be. I need to account for the fact that the sun angle is equivalent to AUGUST now. This April is not telling us anything about the pattern for next winter. That is a fact.

Freezing fog was even reported in Auburn around 6:30 AM this morning.
