KFSD Radar Down!

#1 Postby NWIASpotter » Sun Apr 10, 2005 12:43 pm

Sioux Falls radar just went down around 20 min ago! This is not good news as they do not know what the problem is, and the emergency technicians have been notified.

Storms are currently moving into the KFSD area right now, and are going to have the potential to become severe. Looks like surrounding offices are going to have to help big time for FSD until this is fixed.

The Norman site seems to go down a lot on potential severe wx days- too many crazy meteorologists trying to access the page all at once! :D

Yes, Houstons radar works, but I had to get the link from PurdueWx80 .. The normal place I use to get it the National Weather Service isnt working... Here is the link from Purdue, and thanks again ! http://www.crh.noaa.gov/radar/latest/DS ... khgx.shtml

I've tried every different radar page available. And according to FSD they did issue a status message stating that is was down completely. I don't believe they can do a thing...

In this case, they'll rely on nearby radars (other NWS offices) to issue warnings in the event that storms become severe, unless maintenance can fix it soon. This happens quite often (I believe Tampa's radar was out of commission during Charley), as was Tallahassee's during many of the recent severe weather/heavy rain events.
