COME ON GUYS... NO MORE "OPINIONS".

I JUST POSTED FACTS.

YOU CANNOT ARGUE WITH FACTS.

WELL... MAYBE SOME OF YOU CAN!!!

If I remember correctly, that winter featured a strong El Nino...

Edit: I may be thinking of the winter of 2002-2003 instead, I am not completely sure.

W13 - My real point is that this is TYPICAL APRIL WEATHER. And no... 2001-2002 did NOT feature a strong El Nino. I think it was a weak La Nina. Just like this coming winter will feature.

It happens all the time.

This April is not even close to as cold as April of 2001 and I only looked back to 1998 and found many examples of weather like today.

YOU GUYS CLAIMING THAT THIS IS SO UNUSUAL... ARE DEAD WRONG.

DEAD WRONG.

Just so it does not get lost in the shuffle....

Recent April weather history...

4/6/98 - Sea-Tac had a low of 34 degrees. A general period of cool wet weather during the first 10 days of April that year.

4/6/99 - Sea-Tac had a low of 34 degrees
4/19/99 - Sea-Tac had a high of 49 degrees

4/24/00 - Sea-Tac had a low of 35 degrees.

4/6/01 - 4/15/01 - Every day for 9 days in a row had lows in the 30's. Many days of wet, cool weather. 4/10/01 had a high of 44 degrees!!!!!

4/15/02 - Sea-Tac had a high of 48 degrees and low of 39 degrees.
4/16/02 - Sea-Tac had a high of 47 degrees and a low of 39 degrees.
4/26/02 - Sea-Tac had a high of 49 degrees.

TODAY WAS THE FIRST DAY IN APRIL WITH A HIGH LOWER THAN 50 DEGREES. THE OFFICIAL HIGH WAS 49 DEGREES THE LOW WAS 36 DEGREES. MOST DAYS IN APRIL HAVE BEEN 1-2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. TWO DAYS OUT OF THE FIRST 12 WERE ABOVE NORMAL.

THIS IS NOT EXCPEPTIONAL AT ALL. NOT AT ALL.

Anthony, glad to see your back! Did you like the schools you visited?

Like I said earlier, I am going to agree with TT here. This is NORMAL!!! Sure we might be having a few days of cold temps, rain/snow mix, and all of that, but I remember almost every April being like this. That is what spring is all about in this area........wild changes in weather from day to day, or week to week. I remember way back in my school days (way back in the 80's to mid 90's  ) Every spring break SUCKED weather wise.......well for playing on the lake or anything like that. It was COLD and WET. Also opening day of fishing at the end of April, I remember more times then not when I was young freezing to death out in the boat as rain fell down. I was always in my rain gear. Last April was NOT normal, this April IS normal!!
Don't get me wrong, I like exciting weather, I was freaking out with excitment when that thunderstorm rolled over head a little after 3:00PM today.
But I also would like some nicer weather, we need the golfers back out on the course

BTW nice colorful posts, both in the content, and the actual color of the words

Currently 41.9 degrees and Mostly Cloudy.
Will post some pics in a few.............

R-Dub,

Both Willamette and Gonzaga Universities were awesome!! If I were to chose as of now, I would probably go with Gonzaga because the campus is bigger and the overall population is bigger. The undergraduate population at Willamette is smaller than my HIGH SCHOOL! That's crazy!

TT-SEA,

Alright, I'll make a compromise. This is NOT unusual weather for April...we've had many Aprils that have done the same thing. BUT...this is not "normal" weather for this time of year. Statistically, we should have afternoon high temperatures in the mid, upper 50s with at least partly cloudy conditions. To say afternoon highs in the mid 40s with heavy rain is "normal" for this time of year is ridiculous! Fair?!

Anthony... I have said MANY times that today was below normal. That is a fact.

This should NOT be a tough concept to grasp - although today was WAY BELOW NORMAL... this weather is typical for April.

TODAY WAS STATISTICALLY BELOW NORMAL.

THIS WEATHER HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY APRIL.

THAT IS NOT A CONTRADICTION. BOTH ARE FACTS.

MOST IMPORTANTLY... THIS APRIL DOES NOT INDICATE ANYTHING FOR THE COMING WINTER. IF ANYTHING... IT MAY ARGUE FOR VERY LITTLE LOWLAND SNOW NEXT WINTER BASED ON RECENT HISTORY!!!!!

O.K... it looks like the weekend system is a "go" and it should be wetter than this current undefined pattern. I had mentioned that we should watch for the possibility of the upper low to cut-off but it looks like it will barely hang to a weaken jet stream for one more round of active weather.

After that... we should be back to more sunshine and highs in the upper 50's to mid 60's by the middle of next week.

All in all... this will be a fairly normal April.

TT-SEA,

I've never said that this current pattern is an early indicator for next winter...or for the upcoming winters. That's all been Snow_Wizzard. But so far, this April has been wetter/cooler than normal...and that's factual. The past three, four weeks have been like this. You can't deny that. And not EVERY April is this cold/wet...there are some Aprils with afternoon high temperatures in the 70s with abundant sunshine. To say that EVERY April is like this is absurd...or for that matter, almost every April.

Anthony... this weather is not normal for ALL of April. But most every April has periods like this. We will have nicer April weather in the second half of the month.

One month ago I said we were on the verge of a major pattern change that would last through the first half of April.

I am not denying the last month has been wetter and cooler than normal. This is exactly what I thought would happen. It was about time to get some excitment around here!!

Still... a week or two of weather like this happens frequently in April.

Now it will quiet down significantly after the weekend.

The 00Z run of the GFS continues a general breakdown of the cool, wet pattern.

Nicer weather is right around the corner. We just need to get through this coming weekend.

A decent storm this weekend...and then a pattern shift beginning the middle of next week.

Tomorrow could be another interesting day...thunderstorms, ice pellet showers and gusty winds.

A little bit of everything for everyone...cold/wet weather for Snow_Wizzard and Brennan...warmer/drier weather later for me, TT-SEA and R-Dub.

Goodnite to everyone.

TT...I have one for you to explain. I have looked through my records back to 1990 and I could not fine one instance where there was a day as cold as today this late in the season. I had a daily average of 40, and I HAVE NOT found one example of any day this late or later where it averaged that cold. How can that be if this is normal weather. You have gotten to the point of near insanity on this issue. The daily temperature averages were VERY low today for Seatte, Olympia and other cities. You have yet to answer my question...What if this ends up being one the three coldest April's in the last 25 years? Would you call it normal? If so, that is an indefensible point of view.

I still don't know how you know I am wrong about all of this. We have to wait and see don't we???? Another point. This is one of ONLY 7 years since 1890 that had a cold April after a warm March. Does that sound normal to you?

Good evening all. Like Randy....I too saw dark clouds earlier today. So here are some pics I took while work this afternoon, and notice just how dark and ominus they look! ALSO...notice 'stormy pic7 and stormy pic8'. You can see swirl like structure in the clouds. I thought for sure there would be a funnel cloud, but I did not see one!

I give up dude.

Talk about insanity.

April of 2001 was 3 degrees colder on average through the 12th. Did you read any of my comments???????????? That was just 4 years ago. And it was SIGNIFICANTLY COLDER.

April 10, 2001 had a high of 44 degrees!!!!

I just went back to 1998 and found MANY days in April with highs in the 40's and low in the 30's.

In the last 7 years there has probably been 25-30 days in April that had highs in the 40's (today's high was 49 degrees) and lows in the 30's (today's low was 36 degrees). There were too many too count.

Are we talking about Western Washington or Los Angeles??

I did not realize how common a day like this is for April until I started looking back. It is AMAZINGLY common.

Tell me how this is SO exceptional. Its just a cool period.

We are going to be at or above for the last 10 days of the month.

You MUST have done this same thing in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. They all had cool periods in April that must have made you assume a cold winter was on the way!!

Doesn't all the drama you create ever make you exhausted.
