Will cutoff low off Carolinas have an Invest?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Apr 14, 2005 8:10 pm

Depends if organization improves and the upper dynamics are favorable I say yes we may see 90L Invest up.Also if it mantains all night and early morning first visible images may show if there is a surface low there and quickScat will help too.Something to talk about in mid april. :)

Well at least it is something that all are talking about even if it does nothing. :)

It looks much less organized than in the past 6 hours as the upper dynamics are being pushed away.So I dont think now that an invest will be up for this unless a big miracle happens and the low develops a warm core.Anyway it was a little preview to the season and something that we talked about. :)

Not much left from last night's better organization so no invest will be up as the upper support of the dynamics is almost gone.

Impressive to say the least... It seems to be fighting with some dry air, however there seems to be convection refiring on the western side trying to work around the center. Will it develop into something subtropical or tropical........I doubt it. But I would not put all my money on it. Stranger things have happened.

The floater loop shows the low moving slowly SE this evening.Wow maybe the miracle that I talked about in above post comes thru as it looks much better than earlier in this friday.Surely it looks better than some storms of the past including Grace.

everybody look carefully at the last few hours of satellite...it is indeed pulling away from the trough. A cold core low wouldn't do this...I wouldn't be surprised if we see just a little more convection around the center AND it continues to move south away from the trough that we don't see T.S. Arlene. WELCOME TO HURRICANE SEASON 2005, ITS GOING TO BE A LONG ONE!

Things are really kicking up on the east coast. Winds up to 40 at Virginia Beach. 17 ft. waves at Hatteras. May not be classified a subtropical system, but it is stirring up the waters.

"strong high pres over the eastern U.S. Is interacting with a
1008 mb low located about 280 nm W of Bermuda near 32n70w to
produce storm force winds off the coast of North Carolina...and
gale conditions entering the area along 32n. Even though the low
has been intermittently developing deep convection near its many
centers...this trend has weakened over the past several hours
and in fact the system remains associated with an elongated
occluded front which stretches well NE of Bermuda
. A complex
upper low/trof is located over the system in a generally E/W
orientation with a vigorous shortwave screaming past Bermuda
along 33n62w 30n58w"

that low must have been kicking up the seas.
there is a report of a crusie ship being knocked around and having to put into port because of high waves.

from Yahoo News:
A large cruise ship on its way back to New York was sidelined Saturday because of bad weather.

Stormy waters and high winds tossed the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship, causing unknown damage to it, officials said.

The ship left the Bahamas Thursday and was scheduled to pull into New York Harbor this weekend. It is instead in the Port of Charleston in South Carolina.

The ship was re-directed to South Carolina after a concerned relative of a passenger reported to the Coast Guard that passengers became frightened in the storm.

The Coast Guard said a huge wave crashed into a deck.

Several passengers reported windows being blown out of the ship and there were also reports of water in some cabins.

The ship was supposed to arrive in New York on Sunday, but it will now dock sometime on Monday, officials said.

Coast Guard inspectors were on their way to assess the damage Saturday evening.

The Coast Guard said one passenger suffered minor cuts.

The Norwegian Dawn cruise ship can carry more than 2,000 passengers.
