A great book to read, and an awesome song coming soon..

I recieved a copy of the book "Rachel's Tears" today as a gift from a good friend in south Texas, and I highly recommend it to everyone. It's beyond inspirational. "Rachel's Tears" was written by the parents of murdered Columbine high school student Rachel Joy Scott...I thought I knew about her faith and love for God, but until reading the book...I knew nothing. The book includes many of Rachel's handwritten journal entries detailing her relationship with God, and it has humbled me very deeply -- I also learned in the book that Rachel had been shot several times, and was lying on the ground before Eric Harris asked her "Do you still believe in God"? Her reply "You know I do" --the final words the precious little angel ever spoke on earth (it will touch your heart folks...tears streamed down my face as I read nearly every page).

I can relate to Rachel Scott in high school, because at that time, I was also mocked and scorned by a few students because of my faith in Christ; because I tried to reach out to kids that were "outcasts", inviting them to church and my home. Like Rachel, I tried to lead by example (although my faith and relationship with God weren't in the same league as hers). If two students full of hatred had ever came to high school with assault rifles to murder Christian students, there's a very good chance I'd wouldn't be alive today

Also, I've had the pleasure and honor of becoming friends with singer/songwriter Eric Horner (because of the website in honor of Pfc Jessica Lynch). Eric has written and produced a new song in honor of Jessica and all women serving in the US military. The single is titled "She is a Hero", and will be appearing on country and gospel/ Christian radio stations in coming days. I heard a portion of the song (MP3 format) on Eric's homepage http://www.erichorner.com and it is totally awesome...a wonderful tribute to Jessica and all our female heroes...definitely something to be listening for.

Perry, thanks for introducing us to the book and the music.

It is evident that your own compassion runs deep and true...and that the episodes of rejection you have encountered along the way have made you more steadfast in your beliefs and convictions. In that way, you are a hero too!

Standing firm on God's promise is no easy task. The realities and hardships of daily life test that will often.

Rachel's gift to the rest of us is apparently revealed in this book and for that we should all be eternally grateful.

I accepted Christ as my savior at age 12, and was a dedicated Christian in middle and high school, but my faith wasn't close to the relationship that Rachel Scott had with Jesus Christ. Those journal entries in her own handwriting will touch the heart of the coldest man or woman. Rachel writes almost in agony in numerous journal entries that she can't do more for Christ to serve him, to influence them with her example. She was a precious little girl; a very special young lady.

Another thing that deeply affected me was Rachel's seemingly knowing her life would be very short...she'd told her family she knew she wouldn't live long enough to get married (the morning before she was murdered, Rachel told her mother "Mom, I just don't what I am going to do with you. I am not going to be able to take care of you anymore").

About a year before her death, my mother also began sensing she wouldn't live very long...we didn't understand (because she wasn't sick) why she told our grandmother to love us as her own, and not to let us to move to Tennessee with her mom (who was never a very affectionate woman toward any of her grandchildren) once she was gone.

Mom also talked with Becky and me about being strong, and remembering she would always be there for us...watching over us as an angel. We thought she meant when we were adults -- not only a few months later. My mother was also a little sweetheart...a very dedicated Christian lady; she loved everyone and everyone loved her...she was very similar to Rachel Scott in her strong faith.
