Here is a blurb from Yahoo! News about hurricane supplies being tax free from June 1-12:
The Hurricane Supply Tax Holiday would run from June 1 through the 12, WESH 2 News reported.
The bill is designed to get more people better prepared before storm season.
During those 12 days, you won't have to pay the 6 percent sales tax on things such as flashlights, batteries, portable radios, coolers, gas cans and generators.
Hurricane season starts June 1.
My comment on this:
Let us hope that on June 4 a large hurricane does not come up out of the Caribbean and strike Florida in a swath much like Charley did.
I thought the whole idea of preparedness was being prepared BEFORE hurricane season starts. I really think the people who came up with this are tempting fate by holding this during the FIRST 12 DAYS OF THE HURRICANE SEASON. Can you imagine hat will be said of this if the unthinkable happens during that time period. Slim chance, but hey- June 1 is the start of the season, so it could happen. We'll see.

I hear ya Mark.. As nice as the break is the timming is a tad late.. Hopefully they will change that and make it a yearly event in May that coincides with the the official hurricane preparedness week...it cartainly sounds more logical..

Sarcasm people.. no one was saying June 4th would be a day of doom... lol... But it is designed to be BEFORE the season.. June 1-12 is a bit late.. How about May 1-12 for Hurricane Preparedness.. Makes more sense.. But I agree with you aqua, that would be a good week to do it, since it is Florida, where the NHC resides... lol..

a hurricane during this time would be the best for the people (assuming we have to have a hit this year). Most buy their supplies during a threat, not before. If there is a threat during the first few days of the season, they will get their supplies tax free, saving them some money. Now, this would cost the state millions
