Another Name Trend I noticed

#1 Postby DoctorHurricane2003 » Sun Apr 24, 2005 9:16 pm

Someone point out a while back how every I storm has been a major hurricane since Isaac in 2000.

I noticed another trend....that every single B storm has been in the Gulf since 1999:

1999
Hurricane Bret 18-23 AUG
Max Winds: 120 KT, Min Pressure: 945 MB Category: 4
Landfall: Kenedy County, TX 110 KT, 949 MB Category: 3

2000
Tropical Storm Beryl 13-15 AUG
Max Winds: 45 KT, Min Pressure: 1007 MB Category: TS
Landfall: Northern Mexico 45 KT, 1009 MB Category: TS

2001
Tropical Storm Barry 02-06 AUG
Max Winds: 60 KT, Min Pressure: 990 MB Category: TS
Landfall: Seaside, FL 60 KT, 990 MB Category: TS

2002
Tropical Storm Bertha 04-09 AUG
Max Winds: 35 KT, Min Pressure: 1008 MB Category: TS
Landfalls:
(1) Just S of New Orleans, LA 35 KT, 1008 MB Category: TS
(2) Kenedy County, TX 25 KT, 1012 MB Category: TD

2003
Tropical Storm Bill 29 JUN-01 JUL
Max Winds: 50 KT, Min Pressure: 997 MB Category: TS
Landfall: Houma, LA 50 KT, 997 MB Category: TS

2004
Tropical Storm Bonnie 03-12 AUG
Max Winds: 55 KT, Min Pressure: 1000 MB Category: TS
Landfall: St. Marks, FL 45 KT, 1002 MB Category: TS

Just an interesting observation....and remember all of them occurred in August except for Bill.

My "hypothetical forecast" is for Cat 1 Hurricane Bret in July to form off the Yucatan and strike SW Florida. We shall see if the trend holds.

We'll see some of this troughiness linger into June and some of July. A storm or two will be picked up and pushed Northeast ahead of a trough. This will cause the Gulf and Caribbean to be two areas to watch early on
