The Calm Before the Storm...
No pun intended here but pretty soon this board is going to be jumping with posts as the Atlantic season kicks into full gear...I'd like to see a short summary from anybody reading this on their thoughts about this upcoming season as we await the storm

Most certainly it will!!! So everyone, make sure to make your donations so Chad and Marshall can keep us up and running during the height of the season!! Those of you who were around last year remember what happened with the board being overloaded

I think well have an above ave season with neutral conditions in the Pacific.I think well have some long tracks across the Atlantic and aurgueing if it will continue moving west or turning to the north as always. I'm still nervous about how FL will fare this year. A local met from WPTV channel 5 referenced the article that Jim Lishune came out with regarding a dry or wet May could impact Florida in Aug and Sept. Let's see what happens and take one step at a time.

I found this forum earlier this year and will stick close by it through the summer
As far as what I think, I want to wait until the end of May. I do think May reveals hints about what kind of season we are going to have.
The reason is that May is a transitional month where we see summer and winter fighting it out. The dry May theory could have validity as it shows a persistent ridge between FL and Bermuda that extends into FL, which could indicate that we will see a good chance of ridging later in the summer to allow hurricanes a way through. Another thing to look for as far as FL is concerned is to see how persistent the East wind pattern is this month. Last year we saw a very stubborn East windflow towards the latter half of May and it stuck around the entire summer. This meant that the Bermuda High was already showing signs of stubborness as early as May. If FL sees more troughs in May and more "winter" like mid-lattitude influences, I will guess that the chance of an E approaching storm is less than a storm from the S and W.
So I will wait until May 31, right before the season starts to make my prediction because May gives some good clues.

Here's why I'm concened. GFS SHOWS AXIS OF STRENGTHENING MID LEVEL RIDGE LYING RIGHT ACROSS
SOUTH FL DURING THE MIDDLE PART OF NEXT WEEK...SO ADJUSTED MAX
TEMPS UP A BIT TO THE MID/UPPER 80S COASTS TO THE LOWER 90S
WELL INLAND AREAS...FEELING VERY MUCH LIKE THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY. What's your take on this or am I reading too much into this. This was from Mia disscussion.

I had 3 dreams within a month of each other of an intense hurricane hitting here in southeast Louisiana. I had a dream around Sept or October that it snowed here around Christmas. And as we all now know, we picked up an inch of snow here on Christmas Day. Hoping my hurricane dream does not come true. The snow was nice; though.

We were talking about the upcoming season at work today and we are still very affected by what Charley did here in Charlotte County.
Our homes are fix (still many that aren't) but it's amazing how last season is fresh in our mind like it happened yesterday.
We ALL wish Florida is spared this season - I say everyone in the country.

I wish I had that answer for myself. If I was phychic enough to know the lottery numbers, I would be out rushing to get a ticket right now.

I hear dat!! In any event, keep us informed on the "dream state" as the season gets cranked up. There may be something to the dream thing afterall - certainly stranger things have occurred. Although from a scientific viewpoint, that might be a different story....

I do pay attention to some dreams. I had a recurring dream that happened three weeks in a row. In the dream, I was crossing over the Davis Island bridge going home. There was a white truck with a boat being towed and they hit me and my car went through the gaurdrail and over into the water. In the dream, I told myself not to panic, roll down the windows, when you hit the water, climb out. I always woke up before I hit the water. Several days after the third dream, a white car t-boned me at the base of the bridge and I ended up facing the water. Our major trauma center is on Davis Island just across the bridge. I remember people talking to me, but I don't remember them taking me in an ambulance across the bridge. I guess I was in shock because I woke up inside of a bank vault with a bunch of crazy people. It was like something out of the twilight zone. Next to me was a man that was extremely drunk who's face must have gone through the windshield of his car, not a pretty site. On the other side of me was a woman who had tried to bash her own brains out and was still trying. I was strapped to a backboard with my hands restrained. I was halfway to freedom when the nurse finally showed up. Very calmly I told her to get me the heck out of here. I have a slight case of claustrophobia and they put me in a vault restrained with two lunatics. I had some bruises and a slight concussion and they let me go. I remember a highway patrol officer asking me questions about the accident and I remember I handed him my earrings. I have no idea to this day why I handed him my earrings, he didn't ask me anymore questions, he took the earrings and walked away.
