Quite strange indeed! The current weather pattern has quite literally diplaced the cold air that is normally in Alaska, into the mid section of the country. This is more evidence that we are currently witnessing some kind of a major pattern shift in our weather. What has been normal for the past 30 years or so, will no longer be so normal!

The cold is in the mid-seciton of the country all-right. Here it is, May 1st, and we are seeing heavy snow/sleet showers in the MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON!!! Temps have dropped into the 30's in the midst of these showers, but our high was 19 degrees below normal today! BRRR! Luckily, it should be back to 70 by the end of next week!!!!!

I am already dying to see what implications all of this may have for next winter! I surely cannot imagine everything just magically going back to normal by then. The atmosphere is so out of whack that it could take a long time for the patterns to settle down.
For the past several weeks about 75 - 80% of the analogs (best matches to the current pattern) have been from before 1975.
