WIth the fall of the regime imminent, I just see no logic as to why we would have wanted to let him go. The "Battle for Bagdad" was a media concoction IMO. Sounded good but the reality was the Iraqi military forces were defeated and couldn't hope to mount any sustained defense of Bagdad.

For the "Battle of Bagdad" to have been the horror that was predicted, you would have had to have a relatively large force of true believers in order to mount a sustained and credible threat. They would also have to have the support or at least passive acceptance of the general population. A guerilla force cannot sustain operations in an metropolitan area without it. I have no doubt there will be continuing threats and attacks not only against our forces but the new government of Iraq as it tries to get formed. If Saddam and his two sons did survive the attacks, then the collapse of Bagdad was probably due to them leaving the area and therefore they were unable to exert the pressure on the resistance to maintain the fight. We'll only know when the final chapter is written
btw, anyone have a frosted A&W root beer? That's the best way I know to wash down a sack of White Castles
