I'm looking EVERYWHERE for a job, and I can't get one! I'm even graduating with my AA on Wednesday and I STILL can't find one! (I've been searching for a month!) Here is a history of applications:
Hilton Garden Inn- never called back
Portofino- hired half of what they said they were and then reshuffled the rest.
Office Depot- hasn't called back.
Arby's- hasn't called back.
Burger King- rejected.
Radio Shack- rejected.
Dollar General- hasn't called back.
Delta Air Lines- haven't received call or return email.
Errgh.
Need a JOB

Once you get a year or two of school behind you, you might be able to get an internship somewhere.

Wow Man I feel kinda ditto about it as well You have to keep on trying and keep the faith. Never give up and never have a negative attitude about things.

Have you checked at the local golf courses? Don't know about your area, but here in my area the golf courses (including the one I work at) are looking for people because the busy season is just firing up. Most golf courses have resturants, so you have many options from working there in the resturant, to working in the pro shop, to washing golf carts, to picking up the driving range balls, to (my favorite) working on the greenskeeping crew (they get paid more then the guys in the pro shop ect) I started out just being a summer kid working on the greenskeeping crew over 7yrs ago, I ended up liking it so much, that I kept with it, and now I am the Assistant Superintendent. Love being outside!
Oh also you don't need any experience for the seasonal jobs at golf courses, my expectations for new guys are show up on time everyday, and have a great attitude. We will teach you the rest!

Don't give up on Dollar General. They're SLOW at letting you know something. How do I know? Long story.
December was a year ago that I resigned from teaching. I took almost 7 months off (lived on my retirement money that I'd accumulated) and decided to go back to work in July. Fred's was opening a new store about 5 miles from my house so I applied for a job. I was called to work about 2 days later. I had the honors of getting to help set the store up...it was an empy building and we had to put everything in it from the shelving to the merchandise....BIG JOB...never been so SORE in my life!!! But it was fun seeing how the store changed each day. After we had our grand opening 3 weeks after beginning to set up the store, the manager had to let some of the employees go because she couldn't keep all of us on. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to remain and was offered the "Operations manager" position...fancy word for "3rd key". A month later, I was promoted to assistant manager and have been doing that since.
My wife is 3rd key at the Dollar General store in our town. About a month ago, I stopped by to pick her up for lunch. Her district manager was in the store and said "I've been wanting to talk to you. How would you like to come to work for Dollar General. I have a store that needs a manager." I asked where it was located and she told me it's in the same town that my Fred's store is in. I told her I would think about it and would let her know. A week later, I called her and told her I was interested. She set up an interview and at the end, told me that basically, the store was mine. I'd just have to wait and be interviewed by her regional manager. I'm still waiting on his call LOL. Weird thing is, everyone in the town knows I'm supposed to be the new manager at the store. The District manager already told the employees that I was coming. The Frito Lays delivery guy knows I'm going there...even the old manager knows about it...she was in our store yesterday asking our manager for my position LOL.
Dollar General is SLOWWWWWW. Bug them about a job and maybe they'll give you one. If you were in Mississippi, my wife could get you on at her store.

A good resume and a nice suit to your interviews will do. However, look over your resume for errors or corrections. You must build your resume to fit the job. It is not abnormal to have 5 different resumes for specific jobs you are seeking. Having an AA is no big deal. I am not trying to shoot you down, but even the janitor has an AA these days. Just keep plugging away.

Remember to look people in the eye, not challenging, but looking at them. Answer with Yes and No or Yes Mam, No Mam, Yes Sir, No Sir....manners...that will get you a little further here in the deep south.
When I was Office Manager, that was the first thing I looked for, if the person would look at me in the eye, would they mumble when asked a question, would they say a clear yes or no and if they were dressed appropriately, clean, neat, pressed well fitted clothing...not pants hanging down around the lower hips, etc.......first impressions make a difference!

And the handshake...don't forget the firm handshake (including, as Mary said, looking them in the eye when you do).
My grandfather taught me how to shake hands back when I was 7 and my grandmother was working for a *coughDemocraticpoliticiancough*.
I don't get why so many women these days don't know how to properly shake hands. What's with the dainty, limp fish that they offer when we greet each other in a meeting? Is it a Southern thing? I know darned well Emily Post never said anything about shaking hands in that way.
I've known a few who shook properly (firm, secure, dry, and complete, but not tight or rough) and one who did was my very feminine, very dainty, very well-mannered, very blonde boss.
