And Amarillo TX saw 4.7 inches of snow today, a new May 2nd record and the first measurable snow ever recorded on this date.
On the other end of the scale, Miami International Airport soared to 92F, good enough for a new May 2nd record HIGH temperature.
It was only the 2nd time for this year that Miami has reached into the 90s (March 23rd 90F*also was a record*) .
Today's 92F was the hottest temperature recorded since September 1st, 2nd and 3rd 2004 in that city.

Severe Weather Central For May 3, 2005
Special guest for this show will be WISH-TV Channel 8 Meteorlogist Sean Ash from Indianapolis. This is the same station we got our first guest from, Randy Ollis. Sean Ash joined WISH-TV News 8 in February of 2000 as a weekend morning meteorologist. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Sean graduated from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Atmospheric Sciences and an A.S. in Meteorological Technology.
Sean began his broadcasting career as a weekend morning and evening meteorologist at WTVC in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Sean has been a member of the National Weather Association since July of 1999 and he was awarded the National Weather Service Seal of Approval in March of 2000.
Severe weather is the reason why Sean became a meteorologist. Along with fellow Forecast 8 meteorologist Steve Bray, he tracked the phenomenal September 20th tornadoes in 2002. This turned out to be the most destructive outbreak of tornadoes since 1974 & second longest tornado track at 112 miles.
When he's not on-air, Sean loves to visit local schools and rotary clubs to explain how weather works and what it takes to become a meteorologist with his own unique enthusiasm. Besides weather, Sean's other passion is sports. He is a self-proclaimed college basketball "junkie", but wishes his forecasts for the NCAA tournament brackets turned out a little better. Sean also enjoys traveling, movies, culinary arts and getting some rest between storm coverage.

Amazing Heat in Alaska with all-time record highs while the lower States have all-time record lows. Extreme amplification. What will this bring to the 2005 hurricane season???

I know the pattern is going to change, Very quick! I have heard about the Ice Jams up in AK due to the warmer weather.
It's going to make for an interesting Hurricane season too!!
That 29 degrees for Indianapolis was the 2nd coldest temp ever in the month of May. Only 1 degree of tying that record!

Wow! What an astonishing cold spell. I rest my case about the fact we are in some kind of a major regime shift in the climate right now. The thing that really amazes me about this cold snap is how the record lows occured over such a large part of the country. We will have to wait and see what implications this may have for the coming summer and next winter.
It is now time for the pattern to flip to cold in the west and warm in the east. The roller coaster continues!

It is going to change fast. Omega pattern setting up across the country going to more of a zonal pattern middle of next week.
After that, the models hint at a HUGE trough in the west to the plains. There will probably be near record cold under this trough and LOTS of severe weather in the Eastern Plains/Midwest/Great Lakes/Ohio Mississippi River Valleys
Right on Schedule!!
