What Criteria do you use to trust one over the Internet?

Just curious how you develop your trust in others to share information and various personal aspects of your life via the internet or just day to day communications - where there is no face to face communications?

Or do you just have casual acquaintances via the internet?

There are very few I give much personal info. over the net too.

normally it takes me a while. It took me a real long time on twc to get personal with people, but here i found it easier. I dunno if its good or bad, but right now i think its a good thing.

"Getting" personal is one thing...sharing personal info. that is harder for me to do. But I do agree with JQ...I have shared more here than I ever imagined I would. It is just because ya'll are so nice and friendly! :multi:

I cannot define it, but I have the ability to "read" people from their posts; and that instinct has yet to fail me.

I am a very trusting person..but also very careful..It is just the day and age we live in. I guess I just have casual aquaintances :wink:

On the other hand there are a few people on here I would give personal info to..so I guess thats not true :o

I myself am very trusting person - gotten burn but mostly overtime casual acquaintences have developed into friendships and some of the members here feel like family. As I am in real life - it takes time for me to warm and develop relationships. But I always am straightforward and honest on who I am.

I also feel very comfortable coming here to corresponding with those of you who frequent the board. There is nothing better discussing issues of the day, news of the day and even issues we bring to the table dealing with the specifics of Storm2K... with others interested in meteorology. This may actually improve my social interaction with people in the future.

I am sure those of us who frequent the board would slowly drift off or even all at once if we weren't at least comfortable with each other, to some degree.

The Storm2K family is very different than TWCMBs in terms of TWC being a cable network supplying a messageboard to their viewers. The very laid back atmosphere here is great, where we can bring up issues without a "company looking behind the scenes" on things that we are saying about a variety of issues on their 112 days/16 week Off Topic Forum.

I am a very trusting person also. Most of the info I tell people over the internet is not info I feel I need to worry about the wrong person knowing. But it would take some time to give someone my home address or phone number. I would have to know quite a bit about them and feel as though I could trust them. I guess my criteria for that kind of trust would be more of a gut feeling after chatting with them many times.

I have to get to know someone pretty well before I tell them personal stuff about myself. There's one person on this board I share personal info with. But then we've been friends since 1999.The year they gave out T-shirts.

I used to trust alot on the net but after that HUGE mess its REAL HARD to trust peeps now

Chad, Marshall, and TIKA are wonderful folks that I do trust because they have a trust in me and have proven their trust! I have others but they are members of my site and mostly my trust in in my staff.. they are in that position because of trust and as long as I see that trust they continue to have mine...I believe that trust is a two way road...just like respect if you want it you have to give it...just my opinion but its what I live by..yes you may get burned but you learn to PROTECT your trust more

I would never give my address in the internet because many things can happen to you.

In terms of trusting people in the net well I haved made many friends around the boards in the past 4 years and I trust those people fully such as Ticka,Aaron,Marshall,Chad,BreinLa,Bonnie,Barometer Bob,TWW,Supercane,Kevin,Tom,Eric and many many more people that I have made a friendship and trust them but if I continue I wont finish this post lol.

But you have to be very careful because there are bad people out there who do harm to you in the net bringing viruses and hacking the net.

I think it has been easier to trust most of the folks on this board than on any other. I will not share personal info (such as tel, address) except with maybe 2 or three people. Bill has become like a father to me, Chad is like a brother the same goes for Rainband and MF has saved my butt more than once .. Stormsfury is amoung the others I have connected with. Im sure Im forgetting some of you.. dont be mad at me. (been a looong day). I love ya all :oops:

lol. I have made a good group of friends whom I will do anything to help and encourage daily. I think the members who post frequently on here have revealed a lot about there personas and not one of them has said a mean thing about anyone else. Over time I feel I have really gotten to know some of you and really do trust that no one would ever do me any harm. If they did..... they would find out very quickly they tackled the wrong lady!

I trust the both of you as well. I really enjoy being part of the WxChat Team as well as my frequent time spent here on Storm2K.

Bron, you're 100% right... I appreciate that many understand, or at make an attempt to understand that we are unique in different ways and can only try our best to interact with one other. Some have more ways to do it than others and/or find it more difficult to do.

I try my best to be a very nice person. I don't have any other way to be outgoing but through the internet. As I said in another post using the computer frequently every day should help me become more social when and if I ever get the opportunity to. There isn't much to do where I live now; so I live day to day.

I am cautious...but somewhat intuitive. Generally, if something seems to be a risk beyond what I would take in person, I try to avoid trusting too much.

This, of course, coming from a guy who has been burned over the years by issues of trusting too much, hoping for the best, taking chances on people, and never letting go of the old adage that somehow "evil never wins!"

Risk is involved in all things worthwhile.

I'm 56 now...and I figure perhaps by the time I am 80 I will have a pretty good sense for who can be trusted.

Like Bill stated earlier, it's a lot about intuition I would say ... I have found it very easy to share my personal stories here and my trials and tribulations as well because the people here have given me support and comfort when I so needed it the most.

I've connected with many people on a friendship level like I was there talking to them one on one. Amanzi, Breeze, and many others (sorry for not placing all the names here) have been especially supportive and very caring in the many times I needed a friend to help get me through my difficult times.

Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.

Tom I have seen such a growth in you. I used to read your posts on TWC as well as on here. You really have "come out of your shell" It is so great to see this
