Getting to know one another
In the course of the season there will be newbies and oldtimers posting, and with so many people commenting it might be nice to have a thread where we post where we stand in our knowledge of weather.
I am a student at Central Florida Community College and will be graduating from there after this fall. Have been interested in tropical cyclones for 7 years and in the past couple of years have been trying to understand meteorology as a whole. Its just a hobby for me, not something I'm looking into as a career.
Looking forward to spending the season at Storm2k.

I am a high school teacher/administrator at a school in Baton Rouge La. I will be moving to South Lafourche parish this summer and will teach at South Lafourche High next school year. I have always been interested in weather and tropical weather in particular since living through Camile and growing up in the aftermath on the Miss. Gulf Coast (Franklin Creek near Pascagoula) . I have no formal education in meterology but I am a Biology Teacher and have a bit of general science knowledge. I hold a BS in Biology and a MEd. in Educational Administration. I found S2K last hurricane season and have been addicted ever since

Hello all!
Well, this is my eleventh season following Atlantic tropical cyclones and my fourth season following global cyclones. As for meteorology, I'm an Air Force weather forecaster and I've been for five years. My pro-met experience is worldwide, but I'm the most experienced in the European, Asian, and South American continents.
Here's to a fun season, regardless to activity...

I love the weather and have always have since I can remember... I have never been through a "real" hurricane or tornado, but I would like to see one (just not a big one).. I have been coming here for years, but I think I have been a regualar for the last year or so. This is a great site, and I wish ya the best!

Hi, my name is Steve and I been interested in tropical weather as well as any weather for over 20 years since hurricane David in 79. I'm originally from New Jersey and been living down in S FL since in mid 70's. I work at Home Depot in the Kitchen Dept. Last year when we were dealing with Frances and Jeanne gave me a better understanding of terror from people dealing with disasters while working at Home Depot. I love to track and talk about tropical weather at storm2k which is a internet home for me.

Adding my two cents
Got you beat by a few years, dolphin!! I'm a year or so on the other side of the big Five O and have been following tropical systems since I moved to Sarasota after spending the first 28 years of my life in the frigid Midwest. My family has a new appreciation for my "hurricane hobby" after last summer's onslaught--we were one of the few families smart enough to "get out of Dodge" late Thursday night as Charley was taking aim at the west coast--had a very pleasant and surprisingly peaceful Friday in Gainesville helping my older daughter move into her apartment and didn't have to fight any traffic jams on the interstates--as some of you know, my wife and I were in Charlotte County just nine days after Charley and have made a point to take both of our kids down there to make sure that they understand and respect the strength and ferocity of these storms. Hoping for a less stressful season but expecting more excitement...

David here and Scogor and I are vying for oldest so far. I'll admit to almost 54 years on this earth with 51 of those being on the Gulf Coast. Between a father who tracked and watched the weather daily for decades and my place of residence it is no wonder I love the weather and moreso the tropics. Over the last 10 years or so on the internet I have pursued furthering my knowledge of the weather and have been fortunate to meet and learn from some of the best pros and amatuers in the business and even better we've been able to attract most of them here to STORM2K. The first Hurricane I remember is Flossy in 1958. Camille probably cemented my tropical interests, but in all honesty I am not sure how many TS's and Hurricanes I have been through. I guess it would be 20+.

Hi everybody my name is Chris. I'm 27 years old (and single too. lol. I've got a profile in case anybody is interested. lol.) and have loved weather since I could remember. I was born in NJ but spent most of my life in the Tampa Bay, FL area. Now I live in Boca Raton, FL. When I was around 4, I used to create cloud formations using the rug on the first step of the stairs. You know when the rug is pushed one way it gets dark and the other it is lighter. Then when I was younger in grade school, I would create weather maps of FL and forecast weather for my classmates. I would also stand in the street with my American flag to watch the wind where I would let my mom know if it was going to rain or not. My main interest now is tropical weather and I joined this forum in March for this upcoming hurricane season. It's nice to meet everybody and I plan to be here through all of it and to share thoughts!

I live in the Ft. Lauderdale subjects and am in my mid-40s. (rapidly headed for 50, egads!)
Have always been interested in weather, and doubly so since 1981 when I moved to Florida and had to start paying attention to tropical season.
I'm home (health issues), but run a Trek site (yes, I'm one of THOSE) and write and do genealogy.
Graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.

My name is Travis... 26 yrs old. I posted here quite a bit last hurricane season. TWC's 3 minute tropical updates just weren't doing it for me, so I found this site. I've always been interested in the weather... mainly tropical weather. It's always horrible that people have to suffer from hurricanes, but I've always gotten a little excitement out of them. I don't have near the amount of knowlege as many on this forum, but I always enjoy it. Born and raised in New Orleans, I'm always concerned about my city during hurricane season. I can honestly say that I never hope one comes my way since I know the kind of destruction that my city would face in the event of a major hurricane. In my opinion, hurricanes are mother nature's most breathtaking, yet terrifying creations. I'll be posting more as the hurricane season heats up.

My name is Brian and I'm a tropiholic.
I'm 43, husband to my wife of 21 years and father to two six-foot plus teenage know-it-alls (aren't they all?). I'm a graphic designer/writer by trade and weather's just one of my many interests/distractions that make life so darn interesting. The tropics have been of particular fascination to me since I was a kid visiting relatives in south MS/AL in the winter of '69-'70 and saw the damage from Camille. A couple years later, my dad's job got him transferred from the "Frozen Nawth" (Minnesota) down to Houston, and I've lived on or near the Gulf Coast now for 33 years...wow, does tempus fugit or what!?
